What happened with my recent job

Posted by james K on July 21, 2006, at 14:52:38

Hey, I thought it was time to update ya'll on what's been happening. I wasn't really able to talk about it for a while. Now I have to tell somebody.

quick update. I've been unemployed for two years, lots of trouble and treatment in that time. I'd gotten out a program and was starting to slip back into drinking isolation etc.

I live in a condominium complex 120 or so units maybe 2 city blocks. Lots of landscaping. My wife is on the board of directors, we've been here many years. The lawncare contract was up for the year and we we were all very unhappy with the quality of their work. I made a proposal to hire on as a part time groundskeeper. I've got experience and knowledge in this area.

They hired me. Seemingly nothing to lose. 3 month trial period - if I can't pull it off we can both walk away no harm no hard feelings. I started at the beginning of June. Using a mulching mower to be "green" and manual pruners and lopers for maximum beauty and plant health. Started the week after flooding rains. Fought mid 90's heat and Texas humidity. above average rainfall and heat.

It was working I'd done it for a month. Some people complained about this issue or that issue, but in this enviornment, someone will always complain about something. Then a neighbor just went evil toward me. She demanded a back ground check (I'm clean), threatened lawsuits, police, just craziness, slandering me to strangers, friends, neighbors.

I'd had problems with her in past, not open hostility, just normal noise type complaints. I had no idea she was scared and hateful toward me until it errupted. I'm not going to run her into the ground here, just say her lifestyle is not well suited to this kind of inner-city apartment style condos.

My anxiety about pulling off the huge task I had taken on, now went into overdrive with this fear of some woman screaming at me. I had to resign to save my sanity and to let the board of directors deal with her.

So I'm unemployed again, taken up drinking again to calm my nerves. Off all meds in this house trying to be the mature one and not get myself arrested, but not be cowed either. I don't know how to handle this. She's found out too much about me from people I've worked with or lived around. She has committed an actionable offense by spreading mental health info about me around and trying to cost me my job because of it. Lawsuits are not my way. My way has been either running or fighting. Neither is appropriate here. I'm trying to hold to some kind of Karma type attitude.

I've gone on too long. Thanks for reading.

I meant to also say, I feel devastated and hurt. It came out of nowhere. I feel like when I was a child, and I can't stand it. I guess bitter will come later.

Hi James,

I think you have good reason to feel bitter and hurt. I can understand you not wanting to try a lawsuit, that can just lead to more negative things being said around the condo complex.

I hope your neighbor finds a large pile of fertilizer on her doorstep. Hint.

Sorry this happened to you. It stinks like fertilizer fresh from the cow.

I would feel exactly the same way in your position. It sucks when people find out about your problems and have a warped perspective of them. I've had it happen to me too. Just try to keep in mind that its HER problem, not yours. My T told me to picture the word 'PROBLEM' across the face of the person getting to me. Its simple, but it helped me. Of course, 'PROBLEM' quickly turned into 'STUPID BITCH'. That helped even more.

And just know that I completely understand where your coming from. You aren't alone in experiencing these sort of prejudices.

James - I am so sorry you've had this happen.

(((((((((((((((((((((((James))))))))))))))))))

It certainly sounds like you're taking the high ground here. What she's done is despicable.

Regarding Karma - I once heard (& have always remembered, since it's so powerful) that when a person criticises you, they take on all your 'bad' Karma & you get all their 'good' Karma.

I hope people are being supportive of you in all this.

((((you))))

James I'm so sorry. But please don't drink again. Is there another condo near you that needs some help? Or is there a way you could start your own landscaping business. She sounds horrible but there is always someone who makes your life miserable. Love Phillipa
