not resilient to stress. feel so dumb

Posted by llrrrpp on June 26, 2006, at 19:54:07

Hi All,
I've been feeling pretty good since last wednesday. I've had some stress, including a broken tooth, and a dentist visit and all that stuff. But I've had a pretty decent weekend.

Monday- great all day. I made a to do list, I took several nice breaks, I got my to do list done.

Well, one of my items included some (BARF) student loan consolidation. I was doing just fine, found my records, called to figure out my balances. I even stayed cheerful while on hold for 35 minutes (THAT's a pretty good mood, folks!)

Was speaking with my husband, who always manages to stress me out with the financial stuff. He says things like "honey, I REALLY don't want to stress you out but ..." "honey you sound kind of tense, so you should..." After the 3rd one of these, I hung up on him and then finished doing my online accounts and such.

Called him back with an update about 20 minutes later. He asked me why I hung up on him. I said "Let's not talk about me, it's about the loans" "oh, sure, That's a good idea" Good attitude, right? yeah, and then we were all polite business, and agreed to have a nice (more) romantic conversation later on. Good communication. Good business skills. I did everything right, even though loans are NEVER fun.

So, why do I feel completely exhausted, deflated, depressed? I'm such a weakling. The smallest stress really gets to me, and even though I can't point out anything I would have done better, I just feel ineffectual, and lame. Too bad. I wish I could hold on to the "happy"

Oh well. guess I'll just go to bed depressed tonight. Don't even feel hungry. better eat something, though.

blechhhhh. anyone have a cyberhappyhug for me?
:o(

((((((((((((((llrrrpp)))))))))))))))))

I can't handle much stress either. I start pulling away from real life and end up sleeping my days away when I get too stressed.

We should learn how to better deal with stress.

aww thanks for hugs.
you got any ideas on how to deal with stress?

I have a few ways

1) run away
2) deny and distract (binge eating anyone?)
3) get angry and grumpy and bitc*y
4) huh? what stress? Ggrrr, get outa my way!! waaaah! [combination of denial, anger, emotional meltdown]

But I suspect that my list is incomplete

oh well.

i'm gonna go hide under a rock. granite. pink granite. I like the creepy-crawlies. They understand.

I eat sleep and buy.

I don't necessarily recommend any of those strategies, except maybe sleeping.

Isn't therapy supposed to help with that? Eleven years later, no luck.

Working out bike riding, running, wt lifting can all help relieve stress. Sometimes when doing something physical it takes you out of your head. Love Phillipa

I didn't mean to make you sad. :(

I have this theory that some people are just wired to be more reactive to stimulus than others. I think I'm one of those people, but that's not to say you are.

I'm hoping you're not. :)

It's okay Dinah,

I know you didn't say that to make me sad. I was already sad to start off with. But I had a nice phone chat with my husband before bed. I actually laughed for real. That's really rare. Usually our phone conversations end in frustration or tears. I asked him to read something in German, and his pronounciation was so hysterical. I'll have to remember this trick.

I'm pretty reactive. I had stage fright for the first time when I was only 6 years old. And looking back over my childhood, I had a lot of anxiety. That's my predominant reaction to stress.

I'm going to go prepare my morning dose of caffeine and get the day started. goody

I am horribly reactive to stress. I mostly sleep... and eat when I need to escape.

Oh, and you found the pink granite rock which I hide under in my cocoon :o)
