My song for Babble...come listen(ifudare..lol)

Posted by Jay on June 13, 2006, at 17:50:50

Hey folks...well I got to work on a small piece of recorded music. In the end, it will be a song called "Losing Time", which is actually a Dream Theater song, based on their album about living with mental illness. I have a part..that is VERY RAW..I just put it together. There are still some loose ends and pieces I gotta look after...but this is only a minute or so of the song. I played everything on it..drums..bass..guitar..keys.. but there are no vocals.(I can't even think of doing any kind of singing.lol.) It's loud, heavy, and pent up with emotion...about the tragedy we all live with every day. You might want to turn your speakers down, or hey..maybe UP!..heh. This is progressive power rock. Enjoy..

(Just paste it into your browser window.)
When I'm done...maybe I'll ask Doc Bob if this can be the PB theme..but this might be a little too heavy and intense for him. ;-)

I like it

you know what's really trippy?

opening up 2 (or more)

browser windows and then playing your song and the little electronic music that is currently the P-B theme song. I almost have that tune (is it even a tune?) memorized.

It might be enough to induce a seizure, especially if you put strobe lights on. Should I put a trigger warning?

Anyways, sounds great - you're a multi-talent. I hope you post the final cut :o)

Excellent Jay. Are you using a double kick pedal?
Anyway, you've got a lot of talent. Keep rockin!

Gosh....you'ze guys are awfully nice...thank you. :-)

Here are the lyrics

Losing Time (Dream Theater)
p.s. I added a * to what is my fav line..

She dresses in black everyday
She keeps her hair simple and plain
She never wears makeup
But no one would care if she did anyway

She doesn't recall yesterday
Faces seem twisted and strange
But she always wakes up
Only to find she'd been miles away

Absence of awareness
Losing time
A lapse of perception
Losing time

Wanting to escape
She had created a way to survive
She learned to detach from herself
A behavior that kept her alive

Hope in the face of our human distress
Helps us to understand the turbulence deep inside
That takes hold of our lives
*Shame and disgrace over mental unrest
Keeps us from saving those we love*
The grace within our hearts
And the sorrow in our souls
Deception of fame
Vengeance of war
Lives torn apart
Losing oneself
Spiraling down
Feeling the walls closing in
A journey to find
The answers inside
Our illusive mind

Hey..thanks bud...that means a lot! :) Yep, that is the double bass pedal I tried to cram in there. When I record again, it will all be tighter as I will have a click track to keep perfect time. I am not really *that* talented..lol..but it brings me contentment in playing and covering (or creating....I will have to be REALLY brave to post my own stuff..heh.) music. Thank you very much again..

you are very talented.
i don't know anything about the music business but i wish you knew someone that you could send a tape of this to. if it were on my radio i'd crank it!

keep going jay.

That's really got a lovely chord progression on the keyboards, dude. Couldn't hardly pick up the bass, though. I know it's your rough, not meaning to pick at it.....just wishing I heard the done version.

Ya, I do some stringed instruments. If I had any idea how, I'd put some stuff up. One day, I will.

You did something I haven't come close to doing, Jay. Putting your music on the line is a pretty big thing, man.

I was waiting for you to get back Lar...'cause I knew you played music also. This is actually just a "rough cut"..like I took 50 sec sample here..and there...and sadly when I mixed it down to MP3, I lost a lot of the distinction in each instrument. But, I didn't even really "mix" it...just did this one shot to put up to show how much I love music, and thought this was a good song to take some bits from. I am first, a drummer...that was my original training-toy..heh. That's why I like those big, bombastic John Bonham/Keith Moon/Neil Peart fills. Maybe you and I should look at colaborating? It can be done over the internet. You play bass and guitar, right? I'll put some more of my 'noise' up...maybe try and mix it this time. :-) Do you have the computer stuff to record on hard disk and/or any of that? I have some very good extra sound cards and such which I wouldn't have a problem with sending you, as well as software. Maybe you can put something up? Would love to here it...you have great musical taste. :)

Thanks bud...talk to you soon...

you know what? I think you just found the answer to your women problem. Play her some of your music and if she still isn't receptive--play it again so she'll know what's she's gonna miss. Good luck with Dr. bob. I asked him if he's opened for a musical change---he said it's not debatable. Who knows---maybe he's mellowed in his old age and will think twice. :)

Thoughtful hmmmm.

> It can be done over the internet.

Spock eyebrow.

> You play bass and guitar, right?

Well, yes. But my 15 year old son has my Rickenbacker (like Geddy used to use all the time), just now. On loan. So, I'm a six-stringer for the time being.

I know nothing of all of this. Teach me, please. I am a quick study.

> Maybe you can put something up? Would love to here it...you have great musical taste. :)

Well I thought the Internet was 'cause you couldn't here it, so that's why you needed the software and stuff to hear it? <wink>

I have my own sound. <shrug> My kids love it. I woke the boys up Saturday a.m. to go to the Farmer's Market, by playing them this thing I do in D. Thomas said I/it was his best wake up, ever. Id'n that cute?

Lar...I am going to email you some info and such. You may already have a good soundcard, so it's just a matter of "plug-in and play". If not, I have a few extra ones from slightly older (like 1-2 years) machines I could mail you. Don't worry, it's really not that difficult to figure out...we'll find out. I haven't forgot about you my friend.

Hey...thanks Bobby...maybe I can score chicks with rock and roll..lol! I don't know what we are gonna do with Doc Bob. I think he could use a good "shake up" of hard rock music, eh? :) Rock knows no age limits these days...and I doubt he is much older then many of us on here.
Wonder if he likes Spinal Tap?..lol..

Still waiting. <trying to be patient> <not working so well>

Here's what's in my computer. I have a SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio Sound board, by Analog Devices. Under its icon, I have a MIDI Devices icon with an active WDM-based Device. I have a Mixer Device, which uses the Soundmax board.

I was crankin', dude. I wish I knew how to capture the crankage. So I could hear it, too.

And the vocals.....hmmmm. I don't have the hardware for that, yet. And the interface for the instruments? How does that work? I must need another card or something?
