Is there a problem with the way I communicate?

Posted by fairywings on May 30, 2006, at 23:36:22

Do my posts or replies annoy/bother anyone? I'm socially inept. I'm afraid IRL to make friends - seems I have trouble with it online too. What's wrong with me?!

I don't think there is anything wrong with the way you post. I think you do a really great job of replying to people.

If you are socially inept, where does that leave me? ;-)

I think we can be our own worst critics. I'd bet that you are the only person here who sees any problem with the way you are posting.

Truly, I could ask the same thing of myself. (Sometimes I do give people the sh*ts) We're all learning here? I couldn't type when I started, and the online etiquette thing, when to join in, etc etc. But who am I to say your worries are unneccessary? (I think mine are.) You're Jazzed, that was your last name?

Oh, no! I'm sorry that you feel this way. I think you're just fine. I don't read everything on the Psychology board - isn't that where you usually post? - but I can see that you express yourself well.

It isn't that "thread killer" syndrome, is it? I think we've all suffered from that anxiety.

No. I don't know what you're talking about.

Nothing, except this irrational fear?

I suffer big time from that. I can start threads but struggle to reply to others and keep the ball rolling. Same IRL.

Nope. Your posts are great.

I think it's a natural thing to worry about. I do from time to time, and I think many of us do.

But you're absolutely fine. :)

Hi FW,

Your posts have never annoyed me. Your replies are welcome.

I'll never win the babble popularity contest, either. Some people seem to generate huge responses, some of us don't. Just like in real life, eh?

Anyway, I like your communication style. It's just fine.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all the thoughtful responses. You all are the best.

Declan, yes, I was Jazzed b4 fw - didn't like that name anymore - even tho fw doesn't really suit me. ; )

I guess I do have thread killer syndrome. Good to know I'm not the only one who worries about their posts. Some peoples post are so insightful - it amazes me people can see things the way they do.

Some of my fear stems from my T is trying to get me not to isolate...but IRL stuff seems too hard - I struggle with it too. Interaction makes me nervous, and I think I said something stupid! I get all dizzy just from being around people. T says I have a choice, but it sure doesn't feel like it!

Poet, if you're still reading this....I look for your posts. You're popular on this computer!

I'll tell my doubts to take a hike. ; )
Thanks!

One of the first posts I got here that made me feel warm, fuzzy, and welcome was from you. Does that answer your question?

(Curt smiles at you)

No one shall usurp me!!!!

Mwah ha ha!!!!

Don't worry fairywings (I love the name too BTW), I think everyone feels that way from time to time. Unfortunately its just the nature of the beast. I know sometimes I read something and think, 'well that said it perfectly', and then I don't think to actually WRITE that! So here's this person thinking they're some sort of pariah when really everyone is actually thinking 'yep, I agree completely'. Its just part of posting on the web. Try to keep in mind that what is written (or not written) doesn't always correspond with what the person was actually thinking. Not everyone is all that good at communicating their thoughts through writing. So that means we probably misinterpret a large percentage of posts!

As for the isolating thing, I totally understand. I'm in the same boat. People just get on my nerves too much IRL. (Of course, that's obviously my problem and not theirs!) I just found a new T, my first appointment is next Tuesday. I specifically asked for someone who could help me with interacting and building relationships with people. Sometimes I think I would be happier living in a cave. Of course, I'm way too boy crazy for that to ever work. Mmmm, boys. I guess I should clarify that. Mmmm, appropriately aged boys.

LOL Yeah, I knew what you meant by boys! ; ) You know you make a good point, why is it there's something hugely wrong with isolating if being alone works better? I know the logical answers to that, but ..... well, I guess I'm trying to justify.

My T is trying to work on the interacting and relationship thing with me too....he's got his work cut out for him, poor guy! ; ) I hope you like your new T - it's hard to break in a new one.

Thanks,
fw

Phillipa, do you make it a point to interact with people when you go out, or not? I can go out, just don't want to interact anymore.
