my place is disgusting!

Posted by llrrrpp on May 27, 2006, at 10:07:48

So, I kind of lost track of time, and lost track of the housework. Now I'm feeling a little better, and I have to start to clean up my place.

I haven't done dishes in 16 days
I have leftovers in the fridge from 2 weeks ago
My garbage is 2 weeks old
I haven't opened my mail in 3 weeks
I haven't done laundry in 2 weeks

How am I going to make it through this? It's enough to make me despair (and puke)

I can relate.

Just choose one thing to do. Even if you only get part of it done, it is progress. Hopefully, once you get started you will get on a roll (but that never happens to me...)

Isn't it nice to be a point where you notice these things and want to do something about them?

Glad you are feeling better.

Ha! I got you beat on all of them. I don't know why I can't make myself start cleaning, I think its something psychological. I think I somehow connect it with my life and wanting to change it and not be a recluse. Like messy apartment = old life, clean apartment = new life. Since change is scary, I can't seem to get started. At least thats the best analysis I can figure out.

I'm going to TRY to get started tommorrow since this is a long weekend. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks Falls,
I'm glad I'm feeling better too. I loaded the dishwasher. I put screens in 2 windows, so now I can get some fresh air. That's enough for now.
Maybe tomorrow I'll take out the garbage.

ack! Mail!

Maybe I'll just take a nap instead...

Oh, that sounds like a good option. Do you have house-elves? I need to get me some of those...

I can go away, and come back and all will be sparkling!

I'll take Falls' excellent advice a tiny bit farther -- break all those tasks down into subtasks, and that way you will have completed something by the end of your energy.

And don't feel bad -- I don't think I've done much in the way of housework since shortly after starting nutritional counseling back in November 2004. Once I'd gained about ten pounds, I just couldn't manage to move anymore, so the house went to a very warm place in a handbasket.

And now, I'm depressed, I've started back to school, I'm married to a man who won't do a darn thing around the house, and I feel so overwhelmed by everything wrong in my life that I just can't seem to care enough to do anything.

Every time I think I should get up and do something, I lie down until I get over the impulse.

Although I did get out my spinning wheel, so at least I am doing something...

I don't mean to sound insensitive, but those aren't records. This whole thread, not one bachelor voice. <winkage>

Ya, I hate digging myself out of the holes I fall into. But hey, I got away without doing X, Y, or Z for a while, so that's gotta count for something.

Self-care is self-care, even if it looks like procrastination to you. I call it efficient use of my time and energy.

Goal 1)
Remove rotting food so that I don't get insects or rodents
(maybe I should get a cat instead... oh, then I'd have to clean the litter box. nevermind)

Goal 2)
Figure out which bills need to (have been) paid so that I don't attract collection agencies

Goal 3)
Wash a load of clothes so that I don't have to start wearing the wierd stuff that's been hanging in my closet for 3 years, untouched.

Perhaps we could discover new species of bacteria in your milk?

We could. Maybe we can get Maddie to culture it for us, and then we can find out if it has any psychoactive effects (other than reverse peristalsis)

I think I have botulism bacteria growing in at least one of my leftover containers. It has grilled fish from March in it.

You are able to recognize what kind of food is rotting. That gets a pat on the back.
I friend once told me that if I wanted to get my house cleaned to invite some friends over. Not to help clean, but the threat of them seeing it would get me going. I don't even have to actually invite them, just pretend. Being a tad OCD and having a sense that if my house is orderly then so is my life, I tend to be a cleaner even if I can't brush my teeth. I also have 6 dogs that come and go as they please and that gets overwhelming fast if I don't stay on top of it. These animals are sometimes the only thing that gets me out of the bed.
