Hey thanks everyone. My wife surprized me by taking off work and calling in for me. She took me to Walker Brother's Pancake House (simply the greatest breakfast in the world). We then took the dogs to the dog park. It was Lily's first time. She wasn't all that thrilled meeting the big dogs but Gus defended her valiantly. Then she had arranged for 10th row seats next to first base for the Cubs-Marlins game. We went with the neighbors and had a great time. The Cubs pulled the game out with a 6-run 8th inning rally. I may be old but not so old that I still don't enjoy playing hooky and seeing a ballgame. It was a really great day.

It sounds great.

I'm happy you got to spend an idyllic birthday.

It was sweet of Gus to protect Lily. The bravest thing I've ever seen in my life was when my cowardly sighthound crept out from behind my legs and stood hackles raised at the friendly Irish Setter bounding towards my teeny tiny toy dog. It wouldn't have hurt her, but *he* didn't know that. As far as he was concerned he was braving the Hun army unarmed to protect his loved one.

Happy Belated Birthday, Toph!!! Sorry I'm late.

It sounds like a wonderful birthday and you had a lovely day for going to the park and the game.

I'm glad you had a good one!

Laurie

P.S. About this pancake house...tell me more. :)

OMG, Laurie, Walker Bros. is a Chicago institution (pardon my hyperbole)! I grew up groing to the original Wilmette restaurant. Now I frequent the Lincolnshire spot. I personally recommend the banana or 49er flapjack pancakes. Their famous apple pancake requires a shot of insulin be handy in case of emergency hyperglycemia. Your son would enjoy the silver dollar pancakes. Also try the fresh squeezed orange juice and their killer hawaiian coffee. They did not pay me to write this btw. : )

The banana pancakes sound soooo delicious, and you're right, N would enjoy the silver dollars (and the orange juice to go with it. I swear, he's an addict.)

Just an FYI - my husband is probably going to have some words for you when I drag his unsuspecting butt up north some lazy Sunday morning. My guess is they'll turn into nice words after he orders the apple pancake, though. As long as it isn't football season, of course. ;)

Make sure its a nice day Laurie because Sunday mornings are their most popular time and the lines (which move remarkably fast) go well out the door. Mother's Day - forget it. I hate to rcommend a book, a movie or music given our diverse tastes, but Walker Bros. is a must try. If your other half gets the apple pancake he'll need to walk home to watch the Bears. : )

Sounds like a very cool place for breakfast or lunch, though I'm trying to imagine being in Andersonville at breakfast time without having been out all night on the town which I'm kinda old to do these days. I'll register this for the future. Thanks.

Hey Damos, thanks bud. (nm) » Damos
