I can't even manage laundry

Posted by jammerlich on April 4, 2006, at 21:31:32

I guess you can say I'm pretty depressed. I've been washing the same load for 4 days. I started it Saturday and forgot it. Then, there it was Monday morning and it didn't smell good, so I washed it again. Well, I just realized that it's STILL in there and I'm going to need to wash it yet another time. I'm trying to decide whether to do it now or just wait until tomorrow. I mean, those clothes have been in there since Saturday....what's a few more hours?

Yep, tomorrow it is.

That's my standard laundry procedure. Most loads visit the washing machine for a long stay, and go through a few cycles until someone else needs the machine and forceably reminds me to move it along.

Is it unusual for you?

Yes, it's very unusual for me.

I've just been so tired all week. It feels like I'm drugged, but I'm not. I know I need to change clothes and get in bed, but even THAT overwhelms me. There's going to be a permanent butt-print in this sofa once I finally decide to move.

How many loads a week? One for the sheets one or two for towels and clothes. I usually atart it Greg puts it away. If he didn't it would be in there forever. Love Phillipa

So funny! And here I thought I was the only one who washed the same load over and over again due to the dreaded "drained energy syndrome" :) Mine also go from the dryer- to the basket- to the bed- then back to the basket- then again to the bed before being folded and put away. Hmmmm... I am now wondering just how many loads of laundry I actually do a week if I include the loads I re-do.

Oh yes, the second cycle.

We only have one laundry basket. My husband eventually gets sick of the clothes in the dryer and puts them in the basket and brings them to our room. Then he dumps out the basket on the bed whenever he needs it, then puts the clothes back in when he's through with it. We still have our son's old Bassinet (from ten years ago) by our bed, and that's teh home of the laundry basket. Eventually I put them up, creases and all.

It's a sloppy system, but it works for us.

I'll add another phase....
I don't iron anything - hardly ever anyway.

When I wash my husband's shirts or pants, I forget to put the timer on so that I can grab them right out of the dryer, put them on hangers & have them looking decent!
Soooooooo they sit in the dryer & get wrinkled, so I take them out, wet the collars & button-hole part & completely wet one of them, then throw them back in & turn on the dryer. If I'm lucky, I take them out right when they're done. My dryer is downstairs & does buzz when it's done, but I usually don't notice it.

Anyway, stuff that is better NOT wrinkled usually goes through that process at LEAST two times; often more. LOL

Oh dear. & then of course, I often have a Mount Everest springing from a laundry basket of washed & dried clothes!! Often the mountain stays for months & months. I guess we must have way more clothes than we need!!

Gosh, we're resourceful people, managing to minimize the workload down to the just barely do-able. I've always thought laundry is sort of a marker of how well I'm functioning. I guess it goes like this, from high to low:

- Laundry done and put away, pulling clean clothes out of the drawers/closet to wear (yay!)

- Laundry done, left in the basket, just pulling clothes out when needed, drawers/closets only contain the never-worn clothes (my usual state)

- Laundry not done, wearing least-favorite clothes since nothing else is clean

- Laundry not done, wearing 'used' clothes since there's absolutely nothing clean (time for a med check)

And ironing or dry cleaning, forget it! I finally quit buying anything that requires it.

Kath, I can identify. I think I may have ironed something for a banquet we attended in February. And before that.... I can't even remember the last time I ironed. My uniform pretty much consists of jeans and Land's End polos, so it doesn't really matter much. Well, other people might think I look disheveled, but I don't care.

I don't iron, either, and I love Land's End! If I want to "dress up", I might go for khakis instead of jeans, although I have to do business casual and sometimes professional when working.

But knits are my friend. I do not iron, and I won't buy or if I buy won't wear something if it requires ironing.

And my husband has taken over laundry duty, since he has fewer shorts than I have panties. He runs out sooner. :) And he's gotten quite good at it. I am horrible about putting mine away, and I have definitely left the towels or bedding in over days and had to re-do them. Those are my job.

I say do what works for you. My grandmother still ironed her towels and sheets. Bleah.

Hoping you start to feel better very soon.

I re-washed the clothes this morning and JUST now put them in the dryer.

Just thought I'd let you all know since I figured you'd all be worried about this poor, mistreated load of laundry. ;)
