Scientology Rants and Raves

Posted by detroitpistons on March 15, 2006, at 19:28:18

I know this probably sounds very random, but I just came across something about scientology, and I have to do a little ranting on this topic.

Seriously, what is wrong with people???? Are you kidding me? This makes me lose faith in humanity. You've got some dead science fiction writer who quipped about getting rich from starting a religion, and then what does he do? He starts a "religion" and gets rich!!!!! WTF???? People can't see through that? WHAT THE H-E-double-hockey-sticks is going on in these people's heads?? And this coming from a mental patient!!

I mean, even the name is ridiculous. Scientology? I think I'll start a new business movement called economononetrics and write some books and have seminars for $1000 a ticket and get rich since, apparently, there really is a sucker born every minute.

Did I mention this is a very expensive "religion" who has armies of lawyers and goons to try and shut everybody up? They filed a cease and desist order against friekin Google!!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!!!!!

Also, they believe that there was some alien named Xenu who ruled the universe millions of years ago and he...."took care of an overpopulation issue by rounding everybody up and sending them to Earth in space planes, and then blew everybody up using H-Bombs. But now everybody's souls (Scientologists call them "thetans") were left floating around. All these souls were rounded up and tricked into believing in things like God and Jesus and what not. Very confused, these thetans decided they'd better stick together. They inhabited the few living bodies that were still around, and now, millions of years later, we all have several thetans inside of us. (Don't worry, Xenu isn't going to do this again. He was overthrown and banished to a mountain on another planet, where a force field keeps him locked away). In order to be free people, we need to rid our bodies of these thetans, and that happens to cost a lot of money."

Sounds a little bit like science fiction doesn't it? That could be because it was written by a science fiction writer who, again, said that the easiest way to make millions was to start a religion (banging my head)!!!!

The punchline is that people actually believe this crap and they shell out big bucks to do it. Sure, it's not a cult.

I mean, if I woke up from a long coma one day and somebody told me about all of this, I would laugh my friekin asss off and then ask them what drugs they were taking (or not taking).

GRRRRRRRRR!!!!

(Slamming the door behind me)

They can't see it because much of what they say is true and much of what they say helps the people who fall into it.

I don't know that I would go as far as say they are suckers, A lot of people go to find themselves in many different religious groups or group affiliations because they are not happy, or fullfilled with their lives. Often it is a last resort. All the power to them for trying to help themselves. Is it really all that different than any other group we join for support?

Treatment centers are rather expensive.

:-) they don't learn about that until they are far advanced in the scientology teachings, that's why it's as easy as it is. Whatever works!

Scientology has helped many people, that is not a scam it's fact and I am not a scientologist. A person who is happy and healthy does not find themselves in the hands of "cults", it would be more likely to find people who have issues in the hands of those organizations, but again, if it works?

Many don't have any scientology knowledge when they begin the process and some leave when they find out. I don't feel it is fair to say they are suckers, In my opinion, they are people who are trying to find some form of inner peace that they couldn't locate elsewhere, at whatever cost necessary. I would do something such as that if I were desparate.

The link below is video of an entire South Park episode lampooning Scientology:

Isaac Hayes, voice of "Chef" and Scientologist, just quit the show because of this episode (that's not quite what he says, but read between the lines).
