A video changed my life

Posted by med_empowered on March 2, 2006, at 3:08:22

OK, first off, a warning: I live my life by epiphany. Everday I have a breakthrough, and its something magical, and then its not-so magical. But still..this one seems particularly profound, at least right now.

I watched this video today about Women and mental health. One thing I noticed...all the women were off meds (including the schizophrenics) except for one woman who took low-dose lithium for Bipolar. All of them. And all of them were so creative, and so bright. How'd they do it? Therapy, yes, but also...self-knowledge.

So..I thought about it, and I decided to think: what's really bothering me? Then I read this thing online..someone proposing a new personality disorder--the "Troubled Person" personality disorder. I matched it almost perfectly...and I thought: I need to know myself, and act upon this knowledge.

SO..here's what I've come up with: I'm terribly insecure. I have incredibly low self-esteem. I can be moody and mean. I can be lazy. The overwhelming problem is a sense of UN-ease; hence the anxiety, depression, etc.

What do you all think?

I think therapy and self-knowledge is very important to mental health but it still may not be a good idea to toss out the meds.
