When the only emails are SPAM!

Posted by Racer on January 24, 2006, at 17:48:36

Ugh. I just checked my free email account, and once again it was just a bunch of junk from people who apparently think I'm dumb enough to fall for their "Go check your PayPal account!" This gets so frustrating, I just have to express it, so here goes:

"I very much doubt that PayPal would actually allow so many grammatical and typographical errors in an email they sent out, but the bottom line remains I HAVE NO PAYPAL ACCOUNT!!!"

Thank you very much. You may now all return to your regularly scheduled programming...

LOL!!!!

I had an email once from an alleged minister of gemstones from south africa. He said he was a political refugee and needed me to follow a specified process to open him a bank account that he would deposit some staggering amount of money in and I could have the interest over the next 5 years or something like that.

Currently I get emails on how to enlarge my penis.

Also... Some alleged company sending me stock stuff. I figure they will ask me to invest one day...

YES!!! I hate that Nigerian scam! I get it once and a while. Around Xmas/new years, I was getting one every day. The sad thing is that people fall for this..

They do fall for it! I laughed when I got mine.
However I did read in the paper that a guy who even called himself "Hugh Jass" and still didn't tip his spammer off, led one of the spammer scammers on for a few months, and actually got money out of *him*. Not a lot of money, but he'd say things like, well I need 50.00 to get a cab to the bank, and things like that. One should try to be a step ahead of those they try to bilk..

In the Olden Days you'd get those Nigerian letters in the snailmail. I think they still get sent that way.

My very favorite was one of those "I'm a hot, juicy 18 year old girl just waiting to do whatever you want me to..."

Wanted to ask her, "does that mean you'll vacuum?"

There was a similar story making the rounds a while back, only the guy actually got taken even though he was a computer security guy who was trying to trace the scammer. Gotta be careful, since even the best of us can still be tricked.

In fact, there is a famous story about a guy in San Francisco a number of decades ago. He'd contact the attorney in a local lawsuit, and claim to have access to certain documents that would clinch the case. Usually say that he worked in a printing company, saw these things, they were so outrageous that he really felt he had to do something about it, but he'd need to buy the paper to copy them onto, which would cost...

The local legal community felt rather honored when he hit them. And whoever he was did a ton of research, because he always knew a lot of the hidden details of the cases involved.

I wonder if anyone ever found out who he was? This was way back -- 50s or 60s?

Poor guy, I hope he wasn't married. I can imagine him trying to explain that to his wife:{
