Wonder what it's like to be another person

Posted by Deneb on December 14, 2005, at 17:53:30

Isn't it weird how you are you and not someone else? Why am I me and not you?

I wonder what it's like to be someone else.

Wouldn't it be cool if we could be another person for a while? Not just switch bodies, but actually became the other person.

I would like to know what it's like to be:
my Mom
my Dad
my sister
my hamster
Alexandra
Dr. Bob
Clearskies
JYL
and others

I think it would be really neat to be able to be someone else for a day... or a week. Walk in their shoes for a while. It would help people be more understanding.

I use to wonder what it would be like to be in a picture. I use to think the people must get really tired of having to stay still all the time. Can you tell I wasn't a still kid?

I think I have. It's about a mother and daughter switching bodies right?

I think what I'm talking about is not just switching bodies. I mean actually becoming the other person for a while. There wouldn't be a Deneb at all. I would *be* the other person.

It's a little bit confusing, even when you think you've got it right.

You get " at each end. When it passes through Dr. Bob's magic portal, one of the double quotes disappears, and it becomes a hotlink.

What it's like to be me:

You can't get to sleep.
You can't stay asleep.
You get waves of anxiety at random times during the day that you try to breathe through until they pass.
You don't have many friends IRL.
You stay in the house most of the time.
You love your cat and rub her lucky belly until she bites you.
You don't drink.
You think about that a lot.
You are married to a wonderful man who has a TV remote surgically attached to his hand.
You don't like your mother.
You have wayyyy too many clothes, and
Most of them don't fit you.

I don't know. I might have been careless the first time (but I don't think I was). Did you see the one where my name was in blue (a hyperlink), and it went to some weird subject?

It finally worked, when I think I did it the same way three times, and got three different outcomes.

Now that would be interesting. I'm white. I'm male. I'm fairly tall. I'm not visibly differently abled. There are a few different ones I'd want to understand more clearly.

Sometimes threads veer on slippery pavement.

How do you know for certain Deneb that your proposition hasn't already occurred, and that you were not previously someone else or one of the Babblers you identified?

Good point! Also, I've often hoped that I could live out a life, die, and re-awake to another life. How do I know that is not what is happening now?

Good golly, I'm up late tonight! better go to bed now.
