Oh Mickey

Posted by verne on November 15, 2005, at 16:24:35

I love the end of that cheerleading movie, "Bring It On" with all the antics to the Oh Mickey song.

I especially like the line, "You take me by the heart, when you take me by the hand". That was an inspired song.

If any of you have ESPN 1 or 2 (maybe 3) check out the World Series of Poker finals this evening (6:00-7:00pm). What a final table. I'm hoping Black, a buddhist, (can't remember his first name), does well. The table is full of characters including a guy nicknamed, "The Mouth". This guy trash talks at every table. He really gets under peoples skin.

Anyway, there's a former magician, a couple first-time finalists - real assortment with only one previous finalist (Mouth) I'm hoping ANYONE but the Mouth wins.

Well, off to the low-stakes texas holdem tables for awhile.

I don't know anything about the poker stuff, but I loved Bring it on! I couldn't believe what those cheerleaders actually do! I thought they just did the lame cheers like at the pep rally's. How can they throw each other up in the air so far?? I love watching that part of the movie.

Oh and,
'Oh Mickey you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind, hey Mickey! Hey Mickey!' '
Great song. That makes me think of 'I love Rock and Roll' by Joan Jett. 'I'm really into 80's music lately.

I've always liked Joan Jett. She had me with that song, "Little Liar" (was that the title?).

Last heard she was touring with the USO in Iraq. She's my hero.

Yeah, that's it. I also love "I hate myself for loving you". Bitchin song.

It seems like I heard she was on tour a while back with Pat Benatar, but I may have just dreamed that. It sounds like something I would dream.

She was banned on the local radio shows back in the 90's. I never understood why. I don't know how punked up she might look but she's got depth.

I really like Def Naked's rendition of Twisted Sister's song, "We aren't Gonna take It, Anymore!" that's played at the end of "Ready to Rumble". But she's too punked, tattooed, and pierced for me. Still like the way she did that song though.

I'm sorry if I seem superficial (I am, but that's beside the point) but I get positively squeamish around piercings and tattoos.

I'm borderline and haven't self-injured (cutting) in years but still sensitive about that sort of thing.

Joan Jett,

If you're listening. You get it. Your song, "Little Liar" sums up language for me.

That song cut right through me. Leonard Cohen's early work did that too.

That song made me feel. You and Heidegger changed my life. Yet in the end, "Being and Time" is a mere exercise in philosophy compared to "Little Liar". You know what I'm talking about Martin.

I hinge all my beliefs - I pause when I look over the rainbow or scan the field of dreams (afterall I'm in Iowa) turning, twisting, maybe falling, injuring myself, getting back up - on the frailty of language.

This song touched me. This song should be taught in public schools. This song should be arrested. This song hurts me long time.

Sorry, I've been drinking and getting carried away with myself. Sort of like Betty Davis storming a staircase on steroids.

Actually, I'm so terribly sick of myself. I'm so phoney, I really need an acting job. Even this admission isn't genuine.

I'm a little liar.

Dude, its okay! I'm the queen of drunk posting (as I sip my cranberry and vodka). Its okay to get carried away sometimes. And I know what you mean about language. I feel that way about music. The right song can completely transport me to another world. Some older songs take me back to a specific point in time and get me all emotional. 'Jeremiah was a bullfrog' always takes me back to my childhood. For some reason it reminds me of that commercial where the Indian cries because of all the litter. I always felt so bad for that Indian! BTW, I was born in 1970, so if you have no idea what I'm talking about its okay.

P.S. I have no tattoos or piercings (other than ears). I'm not opposed to them - just never wanted to do it.
