And to you.

I'm in the UK and in my dodgey part of town fireworks are still going off (its 12.45am). It was like we were in the middle of a bomb raid earlier.

Yeah, they can get pretty loud. I always worry a bit about peoples pets. And the 'incidents' that happen every year. We let off some fireworks and the funniest thing is that my friends cat actually sat and watched the whole thing. Didn't seem to phase him at all. Only at one point when it started shooting in his direction he looked mildly peeved. He is a funny cat, though. I think... He thinks he is a person

My husband has missed guy fawkes with our son for the last few years. He made up for it by coming home with a huge box of fireworks. We went to one of our designated fireworks spots and for an hour set off fireworks. The smiles of sheer delight on our son's face was worth every exhorbitant penny spent on the fireworks.

Yeah, kids love them.

Our laws are tightening up all the time...
As more incidents are reported every year...

At this stage...
You can buy them for a week or two this time of year (unless you have a lisence - then you can get them whenever)
And set them off...
Wherever you like.

Hmm.

Thank HEAVENS that is over for another year!!

Now, I *love* fireworks.. I even blew a stupid amoutn of money having a professional display at my wedding..

But I see NO need to sell them to the general public. The ones are sale are generally pretty rubbish, and for the past month they have been going off every evening, and for the past three nights they have been going off 24 hours a day.. kids setting them off in the middle of our street ALL night the past two nights (our road is closed to all traffic at the moment as they're playing our water works, so kids get the free run of it)..

Our laws are being tightened, no fireworks after 11pm for example.. BUT, the police in central London have way more important stuff to worry about, so the kids get away with it, and it left to the rest of us to put up with bangs all night.

Professional displays are safer as a rule, MUCH better, and limited..

I'm all for banning sales to members of the public I'm afraid

Its Gay Fawkes Night, aka Fireworks night, or Bonfire Night.. A British Celebration of the catching of Guy Fawkes in 1605 before he managed to blow up the houses of parliment. Its traditionally celebrated with fireworks and bonfires, often with a human male effigy on top of the bonfire..

They still are here - it'll probably be a few more weeks before the shops stop selling them and the kids get bored of letting them off in the street.
