YUCK, my new gyn is 77!!!!!!!!

Posted by woolav on August 3, 2005, at 12:44:01

I saw a new gyn today and at first I thought the man was 100. Then, in looking at his office, I saw that he graduated HS in 1946!!! I HATE going to the gyn as it is (it gives me great anxiety) but then to have this old man touching me, it was just CREEPY.
He was nice I guess, but he may be out of the loop. He said he had never even heard of lamictal or trileptal!!! I thought that was odd. I had to explain what the meds were for. I dont know if he even knew what BP was....
My last gyn was old as well. Maybe late 60's...
Whats up with that?

Hello woolav,
that is kind of weird! I hope his hands don't shake too much, haha! I'm sorry... I know that was kind of gross. I suppose some of the doctors who were educated 50 years ago may not have kept up with all the modern medications and treatments. That would make me slightly uncomfortable too. Actually, it makes me really uncomfortable. I like to know that my doctor is informed and can make the best choices based on all the knowledge out there.

Can you switch to a new gynecologist? Of course, on the other hand, if he's been doing gynecology this long and is a specialist, he's probably great at gynecology. And maybe it's not so bad that he hasn't heard about some of the modern drugs. What kind of vibe do you get from him? Do you think he's a good doctor? Do you trust him?

Good luck!
JenStar

Not so many go into that field these days.

Malpractice suits might be part of it, but another part of it is the hours. I read a thing where a much higher percentage of the med school graduates are trying to specialize in things with regular hours - like dermatology.

My first thought isn't exactly a pure or nice one about your GYN.

I was thinking, " maybe at that age, it's the only way he gets some action." ROFL

Yeah, that was bad. Sorry.

Thanks for all your encouraging comments...lol
I know he is prob. good at gyn stuff since he has done it for soooo long.
And the only thing he did make me feel comfortable with is my birth control. I didnt bother explaining that the meds i am on would cause birth defects so i dont plan on getting preg. I was actually thinking of getting my tubes tied. But he put me on the patch, because he said it doesnt matabelize through my liver. He said I am on enough "pills" and dont need anything else going through there. So, that kinda made sense.
It still was creepy though. My daughter suggested I see a female next time... ????
