I'm finally home.

Posted by NikkiT2 on July 21, 2005, at 16:47:57

I'm probably about to share more info about me than is really sensible, but I need you all to know..

I love 300 yards from Shepherds Bush station..

Last time they hit Edgware Road station, where I was..

Today they hit my HOME.

But the last few hours have reminded me why I love London. Why London is the best place in the world.

In Shepherds Bush there are two main roads, which run parralel to each other, with road connecting them. I live in one of those connecting roads.

Both the main roads are closed.. One to everything, the other one to all traffic.. So I finally walked home along the one open to pedestrians..

Every 50 yards or so, someone as set up a great big sound system.. the pubs are dishing out free beer.. people are partying in the street.. policemen are dancing with them!!

Where else but London? No where else in the world would they say F*ck Em and have an impromtu street party..

London I love you.. and WE ARE NOT AFRAID.

Nikki

ps - I know I still have a few babble mails to get through, and I will, but as you can imagine, I have alot of mails and messages to get through..

but thankyou, everyones thoughts ave meant the world to me..

Thats great.
Thats really really great when people pull together like that.
What doesn't kill us makes us stronger.
It just has to.
I can't really begin to imagine what it must be like.
I don't know what to say...

Hey Nikki,

I know we Aussies give the Brits a pretty hard time, but right now we are so full of pride, admiration and respect for our brothers and sisters there. I for one am truly in awe of your nations courage, strength, resilience and humanity, and that of each of you as individuals. Know that we are standing beside you linked arm in arm.

Nikki,
No wonder you are so proud of your city.

Glad you are safe and sound. Hug a bobbie for me.

Nikki, London has much to be proud of.

I've tried several times to say what I want to say, and just can't. But sometimes the human spirit is so beautiful that I can barely take it. And sometimes it is so ugly that I can barely stand it. And it never fails to astonish me when those two possibilities stand side by side so plainly.

Nikki,
I'm so glad you're surviving and doing well despite the horrible attacks! You're one of the few people I *know* in London, and it's scary to think about people being in the middle of such chaos and sadness.

I'm cheered to hear that people are banding together and helping each other. It's good to know that there are kind, wonderful people for the most part in the world!

I hope you stay safe. Please keep telling us what is going on. I feel that it's important to hear from "real" people. Not that the news get it wrong...it's just more real when I hear it from actual people.

take care of yourself!

Dinah,
you phrased it so beautifully, like a poem. Thanks for sharing your thought. It captures what I wanted to say EXACTLY! And you said it so much more eloquently.

It's funny, Nikki, but I was thinking something kinda similar while watching CNN. In the frame, as the announcer was talking, the emergency workers were talking and working together -- and many of them were smiling and laughing with one another. Somehow, that gave me more hope, and more pride in humanity, than anything else I'd seen. That something so frightening could happen, and the people whose job it was to respond could do so with enough confidence to laugh together -- well, I felt so reassured by it, somehow, as though what had happened, horrible as it was, was something we could all recover from.

Damos speaks for those from Oz, and I'll say it for Californians: We stand with you, toe to toe, arm in arm, and we will all survive, without fear.

I'm glad you're OK, Nikki. You mean the world to us here.

Nikki,

I fear my words will cheapen your beautiful message! We are all so proud of the courage of our friends in Britian. Stay well and know we care very much what happens to you.
