TOM CRUISE is on ACE's HIT LIST!!!!!

Posted by ace on July 21, 2005, at 12:36:34

The audacity of this movie star makes me very sick!

Who saw the interview where he called this guy 'glib'???

He kept saying again and again "You don't know the history of psychiatry" Sure, psychiatry has bad moments in the past, but so has any medical fraternity.... Also, Tom never thought to extraploate on the "past of psychiatry". He probably has read Breggin and taken it whole without questioning anything. And Breggin shows absolutely 100% bias in his "writings" There is not one part or phrase where he sees the utility of psych drugs.

Tom also started to incongruously blurt out "oh dear antipsychotics"etc etc. With regard to what Tom?

I'd like to see him handle a full blown schizophrenic in a paranoic state without AP medication. And Ritalin....OK, I'm not a big fan of that, but I doubt Tom knows how that biochemically effects the brain in different regions. He is saying it is bad because it is (supposed to be) bad....circular reasoning, Tom!

He is a movie star, not a Doctor, and his audacity is remarkable.

Many many many people have been saved from psych drugs...statistics show unequivocally it is EXTREMELY unlikely for someone to suicide while being on a AD.

Maybe Tom should go to university and do a course on neuroanatomy.

Ace.

Why are we taking AD's according to Tom Cruise who is apparently an expert on this subject, all that is needed is vitamins and exercise. Ya right.. anyone who thinks severe depression can be alleviated using such simple guidlines isn't sound enough on this subject to comment on it, none of his comments should be taken seriously

Tom Cruise refers to antidepressants (SSRIs) and medications like ritalin as "antipsychotic drugs"

That misnomer should be enough to discredit his "expertise" in the field of Psychiatry.

Fellow scientologist actress Jenna Elfman has been quoted as saying:

"I intend to make Scientology as accessible to as many people as I can. And that is my goal,” Elfman said. To do this, she says, it is my “duty to clear the planet.” By “clearing” she means to rid the world of “body thetans” — aliens who Scientologists believe inhabit the earth from a nuclear explosion 75 million years ago.

There was an article in a woman's magazine which discussed how involved Madonna is also. I wonder how many illegal drugs both have taken? Fondly, Phillipa

Hi Phillipa,

Madonna's not a Scientologist. She is into Kabbalah. I don't believe that Kabbalists are anti-psychiatry. At least I haven't heard that they are.

Hi Phillipa
If I had their bank balances, illegal drugs, supplements, natural therapists, masseurs, trips to Bolivia and Peru, and lots I've never heard of, I wouldn't need psych drugs either.
Of course no offence intended to anyone anywhere.

Such an "error" is totally GLIB, to use TOM'S words.

Absolutely. I agree 100%. He is exploiting his fame to peddle absolute and utter nonsense. Tom just needs something to believe in and feel passionate about, like us all. But, his "passion" has it's bedrock in mendacity for a large part. I state with utter confidence Tom would no little, if anything, about neuroanatomy/neurophysiology. It's funny, his ex-wifes father was a psychologist who, at times, espoused the use of psychiatric medications.

Utter nonsense and fanatacism which is at the root of many wars and fascist dictates. People should do what makes them happy, without stepping on anyone's toes, OR allowing anyone to step on theirs.

Well... The stats that the drug companies saw fit to give to the FDA... There actually was some concern about their hushing up the increase in suicide rates for teenagers / young adults taking... effexor??? I'm not sure which one it was in particular. There was some talk about requiring suicide warnings to be placed on the medication, even!

The trouble is... That there are grains of truth... And so thats what makes it hard to sort out where they have a valid point and what the implications of the point are, and where they just have it wrong.

The efficacy of psychiatry. Take someone with catatonic schizophrenia standing in a rigid posture for hours on end. After being treated with an anti-psychotic, hey presto.

The inefficacy of psychiatry. Take someone with BPD / PTSD / depression etc etc. Give them meds. Little / no improvement.

Some disorders are more / less responsive to meds.
Some individuals with that disorder are more / less responsive to meds.

For every case that is responsive (and thus a counter-example) for Tom
Tom can cite a case that is non-responsive (and thus a counter-example) for the efficacy of psychiatry.

And as usual... The truth lies somewhere in the middle.

The history of psychiatry is a fairly disturbing read.

But as it the history of most things...

Hi Phillipa,

Here's a definition of Kabbalah from the following web site:

http://www.digital-brilliance.com/kab/faq.htm#WhatisKabbalah

"Kabbalah is an aspect of Jewish mysticism. It consists of a large body of speculation on the nature of divinity, the creation, the origin and fate of the soul, and the role of human beings. It consists also of meditative, devotional, mystical and magical practices which were taught only to a select few and for this reason Kabbalah is regarded as an esoteric offshoot of Judaism. Some aspects of Kabbalah have been studied and used by non-Jews for several hundred years."

Many others consider it to be a cultish movement and denigrate Madonna and her faith in it. Maybe the program you saw was about celebrity religions that are considered by the mainstream media to be trendy - not just about Scientology - and that's why she was included. Demi Moore, Britney Spears and other big celebrities consider themselves Kabbalists now.

Here's an article about Madonna and Kabbalah:
