True confessions

Posted by TamaraJ on June 18, 2005, at 19:14:55

Mary Poppins is on t.v. tonight, and I am watching it. How embarrassing!!

And, while I'm at it, I have seen the Wizard of Oz a ton of times.

Oh, yeah, and I sometimes sing along. Now that's really embarrassing.

OMG, sleepygirl....me, too! Including the fake opera voice! I've had Adelweiss (sp.?) and My Favorite Things stuck in my head for a couple days, too! :-)

. . . brown paper packages tied up in strings. These are a few of my favorite things. When the dog bites . . . la la la la I am sixteen, going on seventeen . . . la la la la

Hey, how about Oliver. I love that one!! When I was a kid, my dad took me to see Oliver and he was SO embarrassed because, apparently, I stood in the theatre and sang along with almost every song!! I was a strange child LOL.

Stay Awake from Mary Poppins was my youngest child's lullaby - the song I sang especially for her.

We used to have Wizerd of Oz parties every year when it came on TV.

A bunch of us got together. We knew every line, every song and played parts.

Like Rocky Horror, but not at midnight.

When I was a kid, I had such a crush on Mark Lester (the guy who played Oliver). And, as embarrassing as this is, when I was about 10 or 11, I had a crush on Barry Williams (the guy who played Greg on the Brady Bunch). I even wrote to him, and I got a postcard thingy with his autograph on it back from him. I thought I was SO special. I showed off to all my little girl friends LOL, and they were jealous. Oh yeah, and and at that age, I never missed an issue of used TeenBeat or was it Tiger Beat.

That would be so much FUN!!!! I think I know every song as well. They are catchy tunes LOL. Off topic a bit, but the dentist I go to has these video players so patients can watch movies when he works on their teeth (stress reliever). So, I would always bring The Wizard of Oz and (very embarrassing) Grease LOL. It really does take a person's mind off what's going on in their mouth. Plus, you have headphones on, so you can barely hear the drill or the clanging of the instruments.

Hi Tamara,

My checks are Wizard of Oz, so is my wall calendar. I also have a door stop that is the ruby slippers. I went as Dorothy for a costume party as a full grown (physically anyway) adult.

Oz rules.

I nearly wrote to him a year or so ago, and still might. He's an osteopath now, I discovered. Here's why I'd write:

In 1969, I was hit by a car. Major surgery, major injuries, skull fracture, broken pelvis, etc. Weeks in traction, months in cast, months working with a physical terrorist, the whole nine yards. At the end of which -- I could, pretty much, walk.

Fast forward, to about 1970, when Mark Lester appeared in a movie based on a book called "The White Pony", about an autistic boy and a wild pony -- who dies, as I recall, of strangles, but maybe I'm remembering that part wrong, that might have been Steinbeck. Anyway, I'd ridden horses a bit, at summer camp, but something about that movie flipped a switch in my mind, and I knew I had to ride. It opened a door for me, much to my mother's dismay, and the horses gave me the ability to move without the hell of being the little lame girl, the little cripple.

35 years later, I'm still grateful for that movie for changing my life.

So, I may someday write to that osteopath to tell him that he cured a little crippled girl long before he ever took his first class.

What a man.
