I live in Vermont and the storms keep coming.

It went out in the middle of the night - I woke up in the stifling stillness of the air conditioning not working; 80 degrees and about 90 percent humidity (so gross). It made for a miserable night of no sleep and I was certain I had fried my beloved eMac by not shutting it down properly.
Luckily, the cable modem just needed to be reset :-)And now we are watching Tropical Storm Arlene trip through the Gulf of Mexico. We are getting lots of rain, but no wind damage, storm surge, or flooding.
But I am surprised at the earliness of the summer storm season. I was in a bad way last September when Florida had its 4 hurricanes in a row; my anxiety was the worst it has ever been. Seeing the destruction afterwards - for so many months - in the surrounding areas kept me triggering into panic attacks. I couldn't even handle going into a Home Depot as it kept reminding me of the scramble for plywood, etc. for shoring up our homes in the midst of the storms. The worst part for me was having the windows boarded up, with us inside the house, no power, and wondering how bad the damage was outside. We were spared the worst of each of the storms last year, for which I am so grateful! The capriciousness of Mother Nature is so very extreme.
Sorry for the ramble. I'll feel better when we get our hurricane shutters installed (have been on order for several months now).

I remember sitting up through a night in New York watching one of the most amazing storms I had ever seen.. the lightening ws just constant - like noting we get in the UK.. And that was only a minor one!
Get yourself an UPS - Uninterruptable Power Supply.. they're just a multi plug thing you plug into the main socket, but contain power surge protection, and will prevent any power surge from killing your computer.. We learnt the hard way - a minor power surge (not even storm related) blew 75% of the components in our pc a couple of years ago (christmas morning too.. was very distressing *L*).. They're not expensive, around £15 in the UK but a very very good investment!

Thanks, falls. The storm has slammed into the Florida Panhandle, wayyyy north of us. We've got, at this point, a very Winny-the-Pooh Blustery sort of day.

I believe it is. We've had flood insurance for more than 20 years and not a flood yet. Hard to believe - the odds were against us.

all we've got is hot, heat, humidity, dew point 68 , it making my wrinkles smooth...
like a babies bottom...(can I say that?)

we're supposed to be 106 degrees in a day or so. Typical desert summer weather. I would whine further but I have been in Florida and Virginia in the summer and you all that are talking about the humidity brings it all back. WHEW! You can hardly breathe when it's hot AND humid.
