Graphic arts or desktop publishing. You could teach yourself a lot of what you need to know, and augment your knowledge by taking a few night courses. Get yourself set up with a good computer and color printer and start looking for contracts. A friend of mine works from home as a graphic artist. Never seems to be without work. And, she just had a baby, so she can be home with him all day and still be working. Best of both worlds. Interestingly, her husband also works from home.

tamara, thank you, thank you!!!!! if you don't mind the interrogation,:) was she able to get contracts immediately after her schooling? or how long did she work outside the home before she got them? i wonder how hard it would be to get business without any experience..i'm sure where there's a will, there's a way, though..i think i'd enjoy this field, too..any more info you could supply is so appreciated hon! thank u again!!! you're the best!

Amy,

I don't have answers to your questions right now, but I'll ask my friend the next time I am talking to her. She has been doing the graphic arts thing for quite a while (before I met her and her husband). But, you are right - where there's a will, there's a way! And, everybody has to start somewhere. So, at first, the contracts may not be big or prestigious, but you would be gaining experience and building a portfolio of sorts.
