link between certain foods depression?

Posted by snoozin on February 9, 2005, at 12:55:28

I'm feeling really down lately and nothing has changed. I haven't changed meds and they have seemed to be working fine for me. BUT my eating habits *have* changed in the past month and not for the better. More junk, more chocolate.

This may be a really sophomoric question, but is there any link between what you eat and depression? Might not be the right board for this question...but I'd be interested in anything you've got to say...

<wan smile>

absolutely, for sure, yes.

Do an experiment. Eat less crap, more fruits and vegs, more of whatever is healthy for you, give it a month and see how you feel.

Oh, and drinks LOTS of water.

You'll probably get moved over to the health board, but please keep me posted. I am interested in this and would love to know how it goes for you if you choose to try this.

Yes! and not just the obvious healthy vs.junk Coffee helps my depression, but wheat makes it considerably worse, especially the anxiety.
There are other things too, I'll have to think about it though.

Isn't that funny, coffee seems to help my depression as well. Lately I've really been noticing how much better I feel after a cup of coffee, although I still keep it down to one or two cups a day. I guess I'm fortunate that way. How much coffee do you drink Gabbix?

And wheat just makes me feel all-around yucky. I've noticed that too, but can't seem to be bothered to find an alternative.

That's about how much I drink too, sometimes If I'm having a mid afternoon slump and I need to think I'll have a cup then too. Contrary to what just about every article on depression and anxiety says it does not aggravate my anxiety(unless, it's cheap restaurant coffee which sometimes does, there's a reason for that though which I won't get into here) and sometimes if I wake up in that teary fog of depression, it just takes two good cups of coffee and I'm fine.

I heard someone on the med board say "Don't let Eli Lily hear of this, they'll put a patent on it and we'll have to buy it for 2.00 a pill"

I'm assuming it's the caffeine in the coffee, and I know we could just take a caffeine pill, so they've already got that .. but there's something about the actual coffee itself that I don't think they could ever put in a pill. Especially really good coffee, such as what I bought this week. It's nice to find a really good coffee, organic, reasonably priced and reasonably roasted ...
