my cure for depression

Posted by crushedout on December 29, 2004, at 16:33:59

woke up (as i often do these days) miserably depressed and suicidal. i'm better now. here's what i did:

instant messaged with a kind babbler friend and had a good cry
ate a late breakfast of haagen dasz mint chip
went for a very short run that made my lungs ache
had a beer (i know: bad for depression) and some real food
had an amazing orgasm

can i really post this? i'm embarrassed. but it was a pretty good cure for the blues, no joke.

Hmmmmm, I guess I'm buying the mint chip ice cream tomorrow. Won't be too good for the weight problem though. The big O might be a problem. :( I'll hold on the beer though, HATE the stuff.

Anyway, glad that all worked for you and you're feeling better.

It was one of the things my therapist first suggested for anxiety. :) When I hardly knew him.

I think it was even in the book he had me working "The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook". So it's officially endorsed for anxiety, can't imagine depression would be any different.

I second (((Dinah's))) suggestion (nm) » crushedout

I'm glad you are feeling better.

I'll have to add your last one to my list...

I'm not adding running to my list (though I have added walking the dogs recently to my list).

Dinah

I can understand the recommendation to the entire list EXCEPT the beer. That does not make sense to me that would be medically recommended.

I might have misunderstood (Dinah was being a little cryptic), but I don't think her post was in reference to the whole list. (That would be really weird, if Dinah's T recommended that entire list -- in that order! -- to her many years ago. I might then believe in ESP.)

crushedout

No need for embarrassment. I'm going to buy the icecream now and I don't care if I gain another 5 lbs in doing so either.

Thanks for the help!!!

Crushed is right. I meant the orgasm.

Funny thing is that I don't think he'd dream of mentioning it now after ten years of therapy. Maybe some things are easier with perfect strangers.
