Toph has the SH!TS!!!

Well, sometimes anyway. I'm just trying to draw some attention to the benefits of double annonymity. Can I get a witness? Someone on PBTx alluded to sexual abuse and will surely get support. But maybe that individual might be willing to share details and receive more empathy if her post and responders were more clandestine. I hope more Babblers will give their opinions about this idea:

Yeah, red peppers give me that :-)

I read your suggestion, and I don't really mind about it to tell you the truth which is why I didn't respond. I feel that my posting name is sufficiently divorced from my real identity for me to feel pretty comfortable saying whatever here. But then that is why I am advocating the lifting of the email address restriction for the students board - becuase that is the only link between them best I can figure. That being said, I would probably take advantage of the feature if it were to be implemented.

Don't Care About Annonymity

Actually I can't even spell "annonymity" - had to cut and paste it, hoping the last person to spell it had it right. Is that how language evolves?

Worrying about anonnnymimtyy is caring about what others think. That is a battle we can never win. Even when you think you've "won", they leave and one turns to the other and says, "what do you REALLY think?"

I like to start from the premise that I will never live all my past misdeeds down. Add to that the imagined flaws, carefully nurtured into sins by gossip and rumor, and I have no name to protect in the first place.

I have nowhere to go but up.

I usually don't give a damn what people think about what I do or say something either, verne. It's afterwards that I wake up at 3 am thinking, "What a moron I was for saying that." When I look back on some of my posts, I say the same thing - I just don't wake up at 3 am over anything I've said on PB.

Also, I actually have come out a few times about my Bipolar I dx and most people seem surprised, then sympathetic, and then treat me like before. Makes me wonder if I have to be so selective in who I tell. I just wish the world were like here where I can shout, "I AM BIPOLAR!" and everyone says dispassionately, "OK, I'm happy for you."

My thinking is though that some here may not want to shout, "I'M DEPRESSED AND CAN'T GET IT UP ANYMORE, WHAT DO I DO?" Others may be unable to whisper, "I tried Viagra and it worked great for me." It was a thought anyway.

Toph,

I see what you're saying. I might want to keep the "viagra me" separate and anonymous.

I'm just thinking that if we go down that road we might encourage - even enable - those with multiple personality disorder. "Which one of me posted that?"

Reminds me of a Stanislav Lem story where he can't keep his mutiple selves straight. His Friday me is fighting with his Wednesday me, while his Saturday me is looking on.

I'm not shooting down your idea - well, maybe involuntarily from the hip, which is, well, the only way I shoot, that is, if I had a gun or more commas to put in this sentence.

Perhaps another forum along those lines would be a good idea.

verne, you've got to lay off the casual viagra references, Bob might give you a stiff PBC.

That this might work and make people feel freer to post their true feelings on subjects they are afraid to talk about under their usual posting name.

However, since my mouth opens before my head thinks, I tend to lay it out on the line anyway. I have had that waking up at three in the morning thing and thinking.....did I really say the word "Poon Tang" on the internet? Anyway, it might work for some, but I have a feeling that there would be others who would disagree.

You don't need a special board to say Poon Tang, AG. It was my thought, however, that if someone had problems with their Poon Tang they might be more willing to discuss it or receive empathic support if people were completely anonymous. Apparently, judging from the lack of support for this concept, people either don't feel the need for such a thing or maybe they just want to kick my Bootie.

Toph,
Or perhaps they just don't think it will fly with admin? Choosing your battles and all? Or like me, just don't know what to think yet?

gg

And yes, AdaGrace, you really did say that! :D

It flew like a lead balloon, a flock of penguins, and Icarus' ambition. Most of the things I vote for these days are lost causes. Oh, well.

To look down upon my life as if I was looking from the outside. Would be a true feet to see myself as I fall, and flounder, and then somehow pick myself up and dust myself off......and try, try again.......

I've flown into my share of windows myself, AdaGrace.

Ahhh yes, that is my problem as well, not being able to tell what is real and what is an illusion.

LATE LAMENT

Breathe deep the gathering gloom,
Watch lights fade from every room.
Bedsitter people look back and lament
Another day's useless energy is spent.
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one;
Lonely man cries for love and has none;
New mother picks up and suckles her son;
Senior citizens wish they were young.

Cold-hearted orb that rules the night
Removes the colours from our sight,
Red is grey and yellow white
But we decide which is right
And which is an illusion

A friend and I memorized that one night while playing it over and over and over again.

Some illegal smoking activity as well me thinks.

Take all the herbaceous smoke that has been inhaled (including the smoke Bill C. didn't inhale) over the years by teeming millions who listened repeatedly to Nights in White Satin, and let it waft for several days over Iraq and we'll have our boys home in no time.
