Extroverts/introverts

Looks like Cass and I are the only extroverts around.

A few years ago I took part in a Myers Briggs workshop with about 50 other people who all work in psychological counselling services in one way or another. There were only three extroverts - the director of the centre, the deputy director and me. I was one of the managers. I think it takes introversion to work in this field, extroversion to deal with the outside organisation of it.

alesta why did you have a hard time?

Hi alesta
Why did you have a hard time?
was it the "yes or no" of it?
or the questions didn't make sense?
Did you feel overwhelmed by it?

I must say I dislike a" yes or no" kind of questionaire...
I see myself as in between or a little more this way than that.
but I did the best I could and guessed at what I am like most of the time.
Some questions were easy such as:
Are you a listener or a talker?
I am no doubt a listener first and a talker secondly.

Actually, my MB results always used to show that I was an INFP. Then one year it changed. I was just a few points into the extrovert category. So I guess I've changed over the years and come out of my shell a bit.

hi V! :) (i love to call you V. it reminds me of the old series on TV about aliens taking over our planet..:-))

> I don't seem to notice my introversion online even when there's friction with people.

maybe that's because you can pick and choose when you want to interact online, and can go online when you're in a 'people mode' moment.

<But in my day-to-day life I try to keep my encounters down to a minimum. For every hour with people, I need two hours to decompress, digest, and rehash.

man, i've been there, and am so glad i don't require much decompression time anymore..it's not easy to get, i know..

> When I run out of recent events, I start ruminating about the past. I relive all my worst moments, not the good ones.

time to find something you enjoy to take your mind off things..

> I didn't leave the house for almost a year at one point but now I'm getting out more. I have two friends and a daughter in town - and that's about it for human contact.

well, that's okay, if it's your preference..if you're not getting out due to anxiety, though, perhaps medication should be considered..
>
> one psychologist said I'm "morbidly shy". I'm doing better though. Quit drinking and started cymbalta a month ago. Hope to work part-time someday.

oh, well, you just kind of addressed my comment above..i plan to take klonopin personally for social anxiety..(done a ton of research on it if you have any questions for me)

> The enneagram test is as good as Meyer-Briggs IMO and really nails the nuances of each personality type from healthy to unhealthy states.

yeah, i've heard of this test and took it once..it is another high quality personality assessment..(i shy away from taking a lot of tests, though, as all the potential answers to choose from get in my head and i lose track of my identity due to my extreme INFJ introjection, if that makes any sense..i have to be very careful whose head i get into when i answer questions on PB, too, as i start to think like them..i'm empathetic with a capital "E". :-)) some questions on here i avoid like the plague for that reason.

hey, adagrace:),
maybe this test is too much for you right now, darling. i know in the past when i've been depressed i was totally unable to think and concentrate..you may be experiencing this as well. perhaps save the test for another time. however, there are no right or wrong answers. whichever answer applies to *you* is the right answer. the answers are going to be unique to you. just try and answer the questions as best you can..some of the questions are really hard..they are for everyone. just try to find the one that *most* suits you.

I've taken this test when feeling well, and it comes out ENFP; however, if I'm depressed and not feeling very confident, it comes out INFJ.

that's an excellent point. you reminded me to point out that this stuff in no way reveals the true "essence" of each individual person, as i myself have scored practically every single NF and NT personality at one time or another..(but i've never been an "S"..) thanks for sharing..:)

I even surprised myself, but it does seem to match. Never thought of myself really as introverted and so low on feeling. I like the intuitive though, makes me more sure of myself.

Introverted 56
iNtuitive 78
Feeling 11
Perceiving 33

Have to see if my T agrees.
This was fun,

hi ron,:)

glad you liked it! you're another person i would've guessed wrong about..probably due to a limited reading of your posts, i'm sure..i was thinking, like, ENFJ, lol. thanks for posting your results! i love finding out people's types! it seems like we have basically 5 personality types here: ISTJ, INTJ, INFJ, ENFP, INFP. mostly intuitives, strangely with some ISTJs thrown in there..

jai, i swear you strike me as an INFP. obviously i could be wrong, but check out this description and see what you think..

http://www.personalitypage.com/INFP.html

(sometimes the test can be wrong..when in doubt, it's best to check the descriptions to see if they 'fit'. you usually know it when they do..)

let me know if the INFP description suits you better or not...

oh, i see. trust me, you are not the only one that feels this way. i'm the same way..i could go either way on so many of the questions..but the test results always come out right for me..the test-makers factored this in..that's why there are so many questions. just about everybody gets stuck on questions. but if you feel this to such an extreme, then don't worry about it..you can take the test another time! dunt worry bout it..:-) you have fun tonight, now, ya hear? that's an order!!!
