LOL
I don't think so but began to think I must have been... we celebrate Thanksgiving closer to harvest time... so the second Monday in October is the day we sacrifice turkeys and squash and pumpkins...
or in this house, while we do all that, my husband being from Ontario, we hope to have a partridge to put into a tourtiere (a French-Canadian meat pie), along with Nuns' Pie, a chicken pie from an old recipe the Ursuline Sisters devised in the early days of Champlain's Habitation where Quebec City is now, with "C" pie if we know a hunter with a bit of left-over game, venison, moose, etc., from last year, that he is willing to share...
"C" stands for Chausseur, or hunter ... and for dessert the old tarte au sucre, sugar pie from maple syrup....
when I get home Sunday evening it will be time to go into overdrive to get ready for Monday as the Nuns' Pie takes two days to get ready...
and this of course always adds to the mess in my head because I am always so homesick...
and it doesn't help...

LOL there are two schools of thought on that one...
as I am from the province of Quebec, an 'Anglo', meaning a person of English descent influenced strongly by the culture and style of the francophones. This makes us a culture apart in Quebec and in the rest of the country.

At one time we were thinking of relocating to the midwest in the US, but then re-thought it... I should like to return to Quebec personally and stop being a strange person in a strange land <g> -- I felt more at home when I was in Iowa than ever I have felt in Ontario or western Canada --
the taxation situation in Canada is drastic but the taxes in Quebec are out of sight so here we sit trying to decide what to do and where to do it...
have to make a decision sooner as neither of us is getting any younger...

I finally figured it out. You are in Canada!!! I thought so earlier, but the Thanksgiving gave it away. My husband and I went hiking in Banff and Jasper two years ago, and are obbsessed about it. Last summer we took the kids to Victoria, hiked in the Cascades in Washington and Mt. Ranier. Canada is great. My husband has traveled to Quebec City, and he thought it was very interesting. I think I would like to go, after all they make some of the best Ice Wine. I do love my wine. Thanks for advice, once again. I'm off to the foodball game tonight. It's suppose to rain, so maybe we will get lucky and not have to sit through it. As you can tell, I'm really not a football fan. Give me baseball anytime!!! -L

LOL I am indeed in Canada... and wondering how to get through the winter with no hockey... I married a sports fanatic... he was a football player...but he enjoys any game... myself I can watch football, prefer the Canadian football to the American as I find it more interesting..., but only for a short while...
baseball is interesting only when it is down to the last game and only if the Yankees are losing... I once played Lola (Bridgey will understand how thoroughly a role can form one's attitudes <G>) and came away thoroughly brainwashed... although I still would have preferred to play the devil.. he had the greatest number in the whole show...
golf is silly... why walk around hitting a ball then chase after it to hit it again...
what did it ever do to me???
basketball has me on the edge of my seat waiting to leave...
hockey I love as long as I am in the arena watching... unless my Canadiens are playing...
and now this lockout... this was our year too I know it was <g> it is a conspiracy....

how he will survive the winter is beyond me...

You must go to Quebec City... it is the most beautiful city in the world and I have seen most of Europe almost all of Canada and most of the US so I am speaking from knowledge here...
a famous Swedish philosopher whose name I can never remember once said, they say you can see Paris and die happy; I tell you see Quebec and live forever...
well, that has not changed...

no wonder I am homesick....

it is far more likely i will ever get to Quebec City than it is I will get to France. I would love to go to France...is Quebec French enough that i will feel i have been to France? hope i don't sound geographically impaired.

It will be a jumping off point anyway...
they are really distant cousins...
because the distance kept Quebec isolated from Europe for so long before the advent of radio and television and telephone and and and, the language remained pure actually for severally centuries...
for instance we grew up calling a potato une pomme de terre and had so many other references that had to be created because we had no links to the language interaction that France had with Europeans...
then of course we had other interactions with North Americans the French did not have...
we speak more of a language termed Joual than French...
in Paris they do not understand us at all...that is all right, we do not understand them either...
when I was in school in Ontario I used to get into such arguments with my French teachers because the French they taught was the France variety and would not get me a bus ticket when I was at home...
it would get me laughed out of the nearest depanneur though <g>
