update

Posted by pegasus on September 4, 2004, at 22:00:27

Hi all. I've been really absent here in the last couple of weeks, and I wanted to apologize and explain. Probably the last anyone heard of me was when I found out I was pregnant. I really intended to keep participating and posting, but I find that I'm pretty overwhelmed with a lot of things right now. Including an insatiable desire to sleep, and a lot of nausea. And a visit from my difficult sister and nephew. I've tried to keep up with the threads, but it's getting away from me, and I don't have a lot of energy for posting anymore. So, I hope you'll all understand if I take a babble break for as long as this continues. I hope to be back soon.

As far as baby news, I had an ultrasound the other day, and we could see the baby's heartbeat. Everything seems to be very normal (which is shocking to me for some reason). I'm starting to make some moves in terms of finding an OB or midwife, etc. I've told people at work, etc. It seems that despite my overwhelm, things are moving right along.

I'm doing pretty well, other than exhausted and overwhelmed. Please know that I do read babble as much as I can, and even when I can't muster a response, I'm holding you all in my hearts.

Sweetie, you are preparing to bring a new life into this world. Of course you have other stuff on your mind and big priorities. It's nice to hear from you, and I'm sorry you are dealing with naseau. I'm glad you are still reading, but if you don't have the time or energy to post, that's okay.

Also, thanks for sharing the ultrasound news. That's wonderful!

Take care and be well.

It's so wonderful to hear from you! I'm sorry you're having so much nausea; I remember those days, yuck. Everything was so gross to me. I gagged when I brushed my teeth, I couldn't go near the kitchen and if it weren't for TLC from my hubby I might've died of starvation because I didn't ever want to eat; but he did all the cooking and shopping. He was so great. I'll bet your hubby's so great too. :)

Peg,

The intense need for sleep and morning sickness (all day) is totally normal...and a good sign! (don't you just want to slap me? :)

Rest as much as you need to. I use to fall asleep mid sentence, literally. Try taking naps before dinner if you can. And make sure you sre drinking lots of water.

As far as the tummy stuff, there are so many tried and true gimmicks. Ginger snaps and soda crackers before you even get out of bed. Eat a few, lay there, then get up. You might also switch your prenatal vitamins to bedtime. They often make you feel sick. I lived on string cheese, saltines and 7-up with my second kid. My best friend still laughs about that.

I also highly recommend Cream of Wheat.

No worries about posting much. Just let us know how things are occasionally. Please read this baby Babar books now, so he/she will like elephants and reading when they are older.

Hugs from Babble-Auntie Daisy

Daisy,
Is there anything that Cream of Wheat is not good for?

:)

Oh, I only *wish* I could eat cream of wheat now. Unfortunately I'm on this dang gluten free diet (with other weird aspects), so I can't eat anything with wheat. I've been substituting grits, which actually make a reasonable substitute. I did also find some ginger snaps made with rice flour which aren't half bad. And rice cakes seem to work ok instead of soda crackers, as long as I get the right flavor (I seem to only be able to abide the honey nut ones).

Thanks so much for your advice. I appreciate everyone's support and concern! And don't worry, this bambino is already bombarded by books and songs etc. No chance s/he won't be a reader!

And - get this - I found a class here that is for the parents of really young kids that's about emotional intelligence! What a great thing! I'm definitely going to sign up. I sooooo want my little one to have more guidance re: handling emotions than I did.

Hubby is definitely doing what he can. Unfortunately, he tends to want to handle it by having discussions with me about possible food that I might eat. Which only makes me sick. :) But he's sure trying hard!
