I *must* be crazy. I just turned down a trip to the Canary Islands. All expenses paid by work (it's for a conference). Fancy resort and everything. My husband could even have gone (paying his own airfare and food).
My dang conscience got in the way. I would only have been able to attend one day of the conference due to previous obligations, so it wasn't going to be worth the $2000+ it would have cost my company. So I said I probably shouldn't go. But they were totally willing to go for it until I opened my big mouth.
Oh well.

You're not crazy, just honest. Maybe they'll be so happy with that honesty that they'll say they want to send you anyway? Maybe? Hopefully?

Remember, good karma comes around again. This was honest (if stupid...just kidding!) thing to do. Too bad you couldn't get out of the other commitment though.
Sounds heavenly to me.

Your company is very lucky to have someone so honest working for them; someone who cares about the bottom line and doesn't take advantage. I'd be proud to have you work for me! (Not that I have a company...I'm just saying...if I did...you'd be among the first I'd try to recruit!)
You're awesome. sorry you're missing the trip. I agree with the previous poster that good karma DOES come around. I hope it hits you up pretty soon with something cool!

Oh, thanks so much you guys. I was feeling like such a dunce. I mean, I would have gotten 4 days on the islands, for only one day of conference.
But, you're right, even if it would have been divine, I feel (sorta) good about turning it down. Sometimes right and wrong are just kind of confusing, when right is staying home and wrong is an all expenses paid trip to paradise!
I do believe in karma, and I'm already getting some good karma results in all of you validating my choice. And I guess the best part is that I can see that I made the most ethical choice, when I wasn't even thinking about karma. And the worst part is thinking about those days on the beach with my sweetheart . . .
