Has anyone out there been diagnosed with Somatization Disorder? If so, I would like to talk to someone else who has it. Thanks!!

No, i actually don't know about it--is it totally separate from depression?
"Soma"--? Does it present itself with all physical symptoms or something?

Somatization Disorder (SD)is when your body expresses stress as physical symptoms. Most people diagnosed with SD have been previously diagnosed with one or more of the following:

Depression
Anxiety Disorder
Fybromyalgia
Cronic Fatigue Syndrome

It is more common in women and has a strong genetic component.

In my case, I was first diagnosed with PTSD and Clinical Depression, later, anxiety Disorder was added to the list.

I was diagnosed with SD after repeated testing for my physical symptoms (which varied from 30lb weight loss, diarrhea, lump in my throat, urinary burning and swolen glands in my neck to lethargy, muscle & joint pain, migraines etc..)all turned up negative.

I would not have believed it myself if it weren't for the fact that Xanax cures my urinary burning. If I don't take the Xanax, multiple symptoms get worse or reappear. I am also on Prozac.

I am currently taking an anxiety medication poll under the psyco-babble medication category. I am trying to draw from other peoples experience to find out what medication works best to control anxiety.

I have been through so many medications with no avail, I am hoping to figure out how best to control my anxiety and stress before it does me in.
I would appreciate any input or information you migh have. Thank you.

Hi again.
Sounds like you've been through the ringer.
I wanted to post especially because no one had responded yet...

I bet you will get some good input on the med board. I'd like to read more about it--for example, why would it be differentiated from a dx of depression or anxiety disorders--
it doesn't fall under that umbrella?

anyway, hope you find some relief and lots of good suggestions over on the med board.
take care!
