About Mondays

Posted by All Done on April 27, 2004, at 13:49:29

For those of you who have noticed that I like to call KK a klutz, I must tell you I would feel like a bit of a hypocrite if I did not share my late evening story with you from last night.

I got motivated (or perhaps I wanted to avoid other nonsense). I was so darn proud of myself because I finished all our laundry (folded and everything!) I brought one basket upstairs and even put the clothes away. When I was on my way down the stairs (which is one of my biggest fears - stairs - third only to heights and falling), I missed the last step. Now, you know how sometimes you miss a step and you can feel yourself falling and you're able to stop it from happening? Well, this time was nothing like that. By the time I even realized what had happened, I was lying flat on the hardwood floor writhing in pain because my ankle never hurt so badly. I almost passed out.

Anyway, to try to keep this terribly long story less-long, my husband helped me get to the couch, I iced my ankle, and I have an ace bandage on it today. Fortunately, I am able to walk on it even though it hurts like H-E-double hockey sticks.

So, for those of you concerned about my dancing skills, all performances scheduled for your area are effectively cancelled until further notice.

Okay, okay. I can't dance anyway. Maybe I'll sing instead. Oh, right. I can't do that very well, either.

I know! I'll twirl the baton like I did as a youngster. I just love those sequined outfits!

I went to New Orleans for a long weekend, and fell into a hole in the pavement with 2 hours of arriving! And no, I wasn't full of Hurricanes. Of course, everyone at work figured I sprained my ankle in an alcoholic haze. I wish!

And I admire your baton twirling. I'm afraid I would just be holding a flag or something, knocking people on the head as I waved it around.

Ouch! Seems unfair that I (we?) don't have something to blame other than the inability to remain balanced when necessary.

> And I admire your baton twirling. I'm afraid I would just be holding a flag or something, knocking people on the head as I waved it around.

Hmm...I never said I didn't knock people on the head ;).

Seriously, though, one of my baton twirling girlfriends did once whack me in the head with her baton. I ended up in the hospital overnight having CT scans and everything.

Seems I am not only klutzy myself, but I attract the equilibriously challenged as well :).

I used to twirl a rifle. Ask me how I got the nickname "hammerhead"! I dare you. Ah, it's not so great a story. Can't remmember it anyway. What was the question?

I also attracted the equilibriously-challenged. What a great word! You know what they say about like attracting like...

Hope your ankle is all better soon.

Oh dear... :)

I'm not so sure it's a word, actually. I'm concerned that I just made it up myself. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks, gg!

I have been a klutz all my life! At my last job, I fell down (full body face down) two different times crossing the street. Both times I got some pretty serious scrapes that probably should have been seen by a doctor.

And one time, a long time ago, I was working at Dillard's in the mall, and I was bringing back lunch for everyone from the food court. I tripped over my own two feet, fell face down, while holding the food and drinks up in the air. I didn't hurt the food, or even myself, but I was so-o-o embarrassed that I just lay there for a few seconds going, I can't believe I just did that. Finally some women came up and asked if I was okay, so I got up. It was just so embarrassing!

I'm also known for spilling drinks – either on me, or all over the table. I recently spilled a drink right into my lap twice in one week! Can you imagine how it feels to have to walk around looking like you wet your pants?

I sometimes think my anxiety plays a part, because I get kind of jumpy, but I think it also just me! :-)

ok, you asked for it!!!!! the worst story EVER!!! i can't even walk!

once, while walking on the sidewalk with my sister, which happened to be over a bridge, i tripped over my own two feet, fell into her, knocked her off the bridge and somehow regained my own balance :) yes, i saved myself but she skinned her knees pretty bad. she cried and i laughed. everytime we pass that bridge together i say, "hey... isn't that..." and she says, "yes karen it is... and my knees STILL hurt!"

and i once fell down a flight of stairs carrying my niece. why these people trust me with their children, i'll never know.... she wasn't hurt, she didn't even cry, except when i screamed my favorite swear word in her ear. amazing how you somehow manage to save a child while bouncing on your own head, isn't it?

oh, another 'funny (ha ha ha)' story about my niece. i was talking to her and she was loving it and she was putting her fingers on my lips. while i was talking baby talk, she somehow stuck her tiny finger in my mouth and i bit it. oh dear, i felt so horrible i cried, while she was crying and my sister (her mother) laughed (once she saw her daughter was ok, of course). so, you have one baby crying, one big baby crying and one mother laughing.. oh, i felt horrible... why did she have to put her finger in my mouth? i still feel bad...

Don't have to imagine, as I tend to do that regularly, as well. I blame my lack of depth perception and also problems knowing precisely where the heck my limbs are in space.

But anxiety makes sense as well. Hmmmm. Maybe a support group for the Eq.-challenged? :0

KK,
Perhaps your big heart leads you to feel somewhat unbalanced in walking???? Just imagine if you had huge boobs, too. You'd never get anyway upright!

:)

Sadly, it seems to be a difficult thing to overcome :(.

I'm with gg on this one. I don't have to imagine, either :(. Although I will say my dear husband is worse than me in this area. Not a dinner out goes by without leaving the restaurant with my two boys (husband and 22-month old son) both covered in some sort of food.

I, too, have fallen with someone else's young child in my arms. It was the worst feeling and she didn't even get hurt. Poor little thing. Little did she realize when she asked me to pick her up what she was getting herself into.

I just imagine we could go on with the clumsy stories all day, couldn't we?

I once fell down while standing. Well, to be honest, I was preparing to move but had not yet done so. I guess the impulses to the legs knocked me off balance.

As for food, well. I always try to eat anything drippy in my jammies. We have a joke in our house about the continental shelf.

Hehe. Sometimes I get dizzy just thinking about walking :).
