Thyroid and Depression?

Posted by KathrynLex on April 13, 2004, at 13:24:31

Hi Guys,

I usually post with the Lexapro bunch, but thought I'd try getting some feedback from other people on this one.

What is Thyroid and how does it effect a person's mood/body? I'm going to get mine tested this weekend and am trying to gather some information. Any links or info you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

K.

Getting my hypothyroidism treated properly was a major key in being able to respond adequately to antideppresants for me.

I'm going to refer you to Mary Shomon's site at about.com.

Then--key tests and result ranges.

Good luck!

Good luck to you with all this KathrynLex! And hi again noa! I'm really glad you posted that stuff too because I read that there is disagreement in interpreting ranges, and that some docs will see a result as fine where others will see it as a deficit that can be treated. Sounds like there will be some range info in your links that will help clarify ranges, and then I'll ask my doc what my results were. I was tested recently, not sure which test but not THE most basic one I believe. Doc said it was normal and we were suprised, I had had many signs. I've just recently begun that odyssey to rule out medical causes in depression and/or lethargy....

Anyway thanks from me too! ;- )
