Well, Dee's slightly alarming news. I guess I said that, so perhaps I should explain.
When I was in the hospital, I was given a brief physical exam. The man who gave it said that there was a heart murmur. He said it might be mitral valve prolapse. This isn't a major problem, unless it turns into mitral valve regurgitation.
Fast Forward.
Early this week, I had my regular doctors appointment. I go there about four times per year. I told my Nurse Practicioner about the murmur. She takes a listen, and said that it sounded higher than the mitral valve, and that it sounded like the aortic valve. I told her that my mother just had her aortic valve replaced late last year. She said " I want to schedule an Echocardiogram ". The alarming part is, I guess a little obvious. I'm not too worried yet

I guess the good news is, it seems medical experts know more about the heart and how to keep it functioning properly, than any other organ in the body. Wishing you well!

That is the kind of thing that can slightly alarm one, isn't it. I hope they find that it's nothing to worry about. It's so shocking sometimes when our bodies behave imperfectly, isn't it? I hope your murmur is just fine as it is, but please keep us posted, ok?

If it's any consolation, my cat has had a heart murmur her whole life, and she's 17 years old and playful as a kitten. I don't mean to compare you to a pet, but I'm just thinking, maybe a heart murmur doesn't necessarily lead to big problems.

Thanks for the words of concern, they are very much appreciated. I suppose I'm concerned because my mother had a murmur, and in her case it was due to a defective aortic valve.
Basically, a murmur indicates that a valve is not functioning properly. Sometimes it's a valve that doesn't completely close. Sometimes the valve leaks. As the function of the valve decreases, the blood flow to the body diminishes.
Here's hoping that all's well. I'll let you know how the echo goes.

Good luck, Dee. I can see why that might be very disconcerting for you!!

I hope it is nothing. But if it is something, it is good to know that you can catch it before it becomes more of a problem. But I hope everything checks out A-OK.
