Daisy, your recent post about your son

Posted by gardenergirl on April 6, 2004, at 23:56:58

I don't think I posted a reply, but I meant to. Your post about your son and how he overcame anxiety to wrestle was beautiful. Hearing about his coach's actions made me and a couple people in my office I read it aloud to cry. He sounds like a very special boy. You must be so proud. Kudos to Daisy and her son!

Thanks GG. Kudos to his Coach for recognizing that it takes more than winning to be an "good" athlete and good sport. You don't usually see that in middle school

I am really proud of him. He has worked really hard and is a great kid.

Daisy, I missed the original post--I'd like to go back and read it--how recent was it?

I think the post was on psychological so I will try and find it again. It was recent, like March 25th or 27th.

Re: sleep sounds wonderful DaisyM 4/1/04

Noa,
I found it! but I don't know how to link it. It is the above thread, on 4/1/04, on psychological. I reread it and it still holds true.

It was a good thing to read today since his dad is so sick and I've been watching him for signs of anxiety. He is doing really well. Again, I learn from him every day.

We should all have such great kids in our lives.

>...my youngest is in 7th grade and he isn't very big. He was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder at the beginning of 6th grade, spent a year in therapy learning tools to help him (biofeedback, etc.) and was on paxil. Now he is off everything and out of therapy. He still gets anxious, but he breathes and gets through it. He has chosen wrestling as his sport, which amazes me, since it is so personal and you are in the center of the ring with everyone looking at you. He lost every match this year.

>At the awards banquet this week, his coach gave away 5 individual awards: most valuable, most pins, etc. My son was given a trophy called the "courage" award. His coach said, "this is for who you are, not how good or bad at the sport, but how you approach life. I want to be you when I grow up." My son had huge tears in his eyes as he shook his coach's hand and every mother in the place as crying.

Daisy--this is wonderful! Thank you.
