Chat - Tues and Wed 8 to 9pm eastern

Posted by jane d on February 10, 2004, at 13:27:31

Come one, come all.
Tuesday 8 - 9 PM, Eastern
Wednesday 8-9 PM, Eastern

I haven't done this for a long time but I just checked and the room is still there so I thought I'd invite anyone who felt like it to join me there from 8 to 9 PM eastern time tonight and tomorrow. I figure this should cover both those people who need to plan and those, like me, who's attention span is too short to be able to see past tonight.

I accepted a similar invitation over 2 years ago and met some people who are close friends today. And had some casual but fun conversations with a bunch of other people.

For those who haven't done this before you go to Psycho Babble open at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/psycho-babble-open/ or follow the link from these boards. This is a group created over at Yahoo by Dr. Bob and you have to join Yahoo to join the group but you do not need to be registered at Babble. There is a link for signing up with Yahoo from the Psycho Babble Open home page.

Privacy Warning. If you are new to Yahoo you should consider leaving the profile information blank until you are sure just how much information you want to share. That information is optional and whatever you put up there is public to anyone, not just the people you are chatting with, and not just the members of the group. You can also tell Yahoo not to display your email address or you can choose to get a Yahoo email account. I recommend that too.

Yahoo warning. Yahoo chat was pretty buggy when I last used it. It's possible they've fixed all that since then but as a long time Microsoft (TM) user I tend to doubt it. :-) We used to have trouble accessing the chat room at times, get bounced without warning or see everyone we were talking to get bounced without warning. The worst was when you got only partially bounced and you could see other people and they could not see you. An insecure persons nightmare. So, if you get into the room and no one answers you don't assume you are being snubbed. It will just mean the Yahoo I used to know and love hasn't changed all that much.

If you have trouble getting into the chat room I'll be checking this thread often between 7:45 and 9 or if you have access to Yahoo messenger I can be reached at toadflax9 during the same time period. I 'll try to help or, at least commiserate, and if all else fails we can exchange favorite curse words.

Finally, you don't need to be a regular poster here to come to the chat. I was a lurker here when I first visited chat and so were some of the other people.

Aussie,
With a name like that I have to ask West Coast of which continent?
If it's the US you'll find there are lots of other chatters located out your way as well as all the eastern insomniacs. You can either check in casually when you get home or, if you want to be sure that someone will be there, post a time like I did.

Your continent!
I'm just being grumpy :(
I don't usually get on until 9-10pm west coast time.

Aussie,

I don't want to admit how often I am online at those hours. I'm trying to give up insomnia but it won't work so I'm sure we'll run into each other. Grumpy is always welcome by me! Bah humbug and see you soon. And if, for some strange reason, you want cheerful I know for a fact that there are a bunch of Californians on line at that hour too.

(Question for Bob. Are Californians a protected category under the civility rules? Even the cheerful ones? Even the ones who get up at 5am pacific time and make cheery calls to people on the east coast? If so, can we take a vote on that? Do you KNOW what they say about us Easterners when they get together?)

Jane

Thanks to everyone who came by!

It was nice to meet new people. And to see old acquaintances. I hope we can do this again soon.

I would like to ask anyone who would like to have a regular Tues. 8PM to 9PM Eastern time chat to just show up. You dont have to stay if you can only visit for 10 or 15 mins.
I cant start it this next Tue (family obligation) but I would like to start on 2/24/2004. Just be thinking about it and if you want to just show up at PSB open @ yahoo. TIA

Thanks for setting it up, Jane! I was hoping I could have stayed longer - I wanted to ask you about your cat(s). Is there one? More than one? Names?

I have a dog (Cairn Terrier) named Mabel. She's a handful but a cutie!

Thanks again!
