I love the Cure! I went from age 10 to age 20 between 1980 and 1990, so I am a true child of the 80s.

Therefore I think nothing is cheesy, except of course, hair band ballads.

"i'm so glad you came
i'm so glad you remembered
to see how it ends
in our last dance together

expectantly, too punctual, but prettier than ever
i really believe that this time is forever"

--last dance

"sneering past the windows of the blissfully dead
looking for a victim shivering in bed"

"come into my parlour
said the spider to the fly
i have a little something here"

-- lullaby

"show me show me show me
how you do that trick
the one that makes me scream she said
the one that makes me laugh she said
and put her arms around my head
show me how you do it
and i promise you
i promise that
i'll run away with you"

Well, Robert Smith is of course my favorite. And I adore Siouxee and the Banshees. We must be around the same age? I'm 34 and live in Virginia though I am originally from California (I hope I didn't break a rule by saying where I'm from!). I won't deny that I also loved Duran Duran, Culture Club, etc. But my heart was always in the darker stuff - Cure, Smiths, Depeche Mode. There is a great English movie you can rent now at Blockbuster called "You without me" or something like that and the majority of it takes place in early to mid 80s London. The soundtrack is fabulous!

>Of course Robert has my heart, always and forever! I'm actually 24 (youngin!!) and live in Muncie, IN. I started getting into the cure during high school, especially since most of the music of the time didn't suit my taste. I love Duran Duran too!! Sex Pistols, Tori Amos, Bjork, and G-Love and Special Sauce are some of my favs! I plan on moving to CA in about 5 years, once I finish university and save some cash. I hope to create documentaries. It would be nice to meet Robert smith one day!
One of my favs.... Catch!!!

Yeah I know you remind me of
a girl I think I used to know
I'd see you when the day got colder
on those days when it felt like snow
You know I even think that she smiled like you
she used to just stand there and smile
And her eyes would go all sort of far away
and stay like that for quite awhile

..I used to sometimes try to catch her
and never even caught her name

Karen, I'm totally even more impressed by your musical 80s knowledge since you are 10 years younger than I. I always felt sorry for the kids of the 90s who didn't have a lot of deep stuff - mainly boyband trash and Britney/Christina.

Give me Simon LeBon ANYDAY over Justin Timberlake!

>Hear hear sister! I do feel sorry for those poor kids who still listen to the radio and watch MTV. I don't think I've turned on the radio in over 7 years, other than NPR. (and there is nothing wrong with Prarie Home Companion, thank you!!). Yeah, I remember the first time I saw Robert Smith was when the cure was on Saturday Night Live and I was just like "I have to find out more!!!!" And it just goes on from there! And all the slack I took from students for wearing cure t-shirts in high school. It was endless. It's ok, I knew I was cool :) (and still am!) The really cool thing is that I got a lot of my friends into the cure as well. So, we created a following of sorts in the small town of Greensburg, Indiana. A bunch of "Goth" (though I don't really like to label people) rebellious, angst ridden high school kids looking to cause trouble. We had some good times!!! And the cure was our sound track!!

Tonight I think I'll walk alone, I'll find my soul as I grow old"

O yes, I love New Order as well. There was also a pretty obscure band that I used to love called Blancmange.

I saw the Cure once in concert in Glastonbury, England at a huge music festival in 1990. Playing with them were Sinead O'Connor, World Party, and Soul II Soul (who I still love). I wish I could remember more of the Cure, however I had just consumed my first "hash brownie" and ended up hallucinating thru the whole thing, which was pretty cool in itself. However, that was it for hash brownies for me. I was completely pissed that I pretty much had checked out for the concert. Ah, good times...
