Would somebody please stop Christmas?

Posted by kara lynne on November 17, 2003, at 0:59:52

I can't stand this. From now until December 26th I have to feel acutely aware of how alone and lonely I am everytime I see a commercial or walk into a store. Even when I think I'm doing ok, I hear some jingle or see some Christmas reminder and I'm thrown back into it. Just in case I might have forgotten that I have no family of my own to celebrate Thanksgiving with, no lover to wake up on Christmas morning with. These holidays. These hell days.

Just make it stop.

Why, for fifty-three years I've put up with it now!
I MUST stop this Christmas from coming!
... but HOW?

Then he got an idea!
An awful idea!
THE GRINCH
GOT A WONDERFUL, AWFUL IDEA!

kara lynne, let's steal the roast beast and the who-hash. kill our televisions and eschew retail stores. bludgeon our caroling coworkers and listen to the whiny brats cry boo-hoo.

hmm i don't know what to tell you. the holiday hullabaloo really yanks my chain too. all the noise! all the waste! all the faux love and saccharine care-for-your-fellow-man bulls*** that suddenly falls by the wayside on december 26 when you're trampled to get that last broken discount tv on boxing day.

everybody assumes you have somewhere to go, so they don't invite you, and then you sit by yourself.

bah! we shall have an online holiday! where we drum and sing and play like there is no tomorrow! where we harbour no illusions about our families and refuse to grit our teeth and get drunk through yet another soul-destroying day. where we nourish our spirits, not through trinkets and trash, but through real self-discovery and self-reliance!

and while i'm dreaming i'd like a pony.
sorry i have no real help but i thought i would commisserate and kvetch.

seriously i think everybody is either a) lobotomized or b) despairing or c) exhausted throughout the holidays. the absolute worst in humanity shows through the cheesy cocktail parties and forced socialization. stupid party games. blech. skip it. skip the guilt that goes with skipping it. invest your time, energy, and money in yourself, something that will ultimately pay back huge.

ps - please steal me a roast beast. i will cook roast for one and like it!

I think what we really need is a Quentin Tarentino remake of "It's a Wonderful Life", in which Jimmy Stewart sucessfully commits suicide, then comes back and with Uzi submachine guns a' blazin' in each hand, and drags all the inhabitants of his pathetic little burg to HELL, where we all knew they belonged, all along.

or, after scrooge sees his lonely future and unpopulated funeral, he goes and mows down the ingrates that didn't show him respect after his death! then dances on their graves! then removes all the coal from the furnace, removes little timmy's cane from his casket, and beats bob cratchit with it to get to work on xmas day!

happy morbid family fun!

I know what you mean. I was at the mall this weekend to find myself surrounded by xmas trees, novelty kiosks, cheery elves and crowds galore. YUCK! I'm boycotting the mall for a while. I'll be alone this christmas too...

I say that we all rent an island in the caribbean and celebrate our own anti-christmas.

I agree with your feelings on this awful issue completely. The last few years I have managed to simply ignore it & refuse any well meaning invitations from new friends who worry I will be lonely on *that* day! Also having a jewish partner has helped a lot! I hope you get through it unscathed this year.

Thanks lili, I'm really having a hard time this year. I have to try to believe I'm not the subhuman all the Cool Whip commercials would have me believe I am, being a single woman during the holidays.

And WHAT happens to people trying to park in malls about this time of year? They are simply
*rabid* spreading all that holiday cheer, ready to mow you down to beat you to a space.

Christmas is always cancelled.
But this is the first christmas i'm giving someone presents.
I do christmas alone cause it don't do anything for me and I can't drink anymore.
It was always a time to get completely intoxicated till coma.
Smile at old people.
