I'm going to college!

Posted by fallsfall on October 31, 2003, at 7:58:51

My younger daughter and I are flying down to visit my older daughter at her college for "Family Weekend"! She is a Junior, majoring in French with minors in education and spanish. She really wants to teach deaf kids, so she has taken some sign language courses, too. She's going to France for the next semester.

We'll sleep with her in her room, and she's picking us up from the airport in her car (so I don't have to get a hotel or rental car!!). She's trying to set up an Ultimate Frisbee game for the families of the Frisbee team (what a great game - it is all about sportsmanship and fairness). I don't know if I will play, I have very little physical energy, but I will watch and my younger daughter will play. Maybe we'll go on a Ghost Tour at midnight on Saturday through the old houses in the town. Sunday we will go to see her boyfriend's apartment and his art exhibit (he's a sculptor!). Then we fly home.

My daughter is one of the people I like to spend time with most in the world. She is funny and kind and flexible. If I get tired, I'll tell her I need a nap, or to go to the library and that will be fine. So I don't feel like it is a lot of pressure to go.

I just have to get my younger one to the plane on time... So I'm going to try to not come back on Babble until I'm ready to walk out the door. I may have some computer access while I'm there. If not - hope you all have a good weekend.

Falls,
Have a great time. We'll certainly miss you here. You don't need to play frisbee if you don't want to.
See you when you get back.
Dee.

Sounds fabulous! Have a great time. :) (nm) » fallsfall

I had a great time with my daughters. My oldest is such a nice person and I like her and miss her so much.

I learned that I really have to get enough sleep. She's a college student - you think she sleeps? Her pace is about 100 times mine. She walks all over campus, and lives on the 3rd floor. I was physically beat, and mentally over loaded. Finally, on Sat night, they were going to watch a movie starting at 10PM. While they were getting ready for that (it took about an hour...) I fell asleep on her bed (well, I was 3/4 asleep and chose not to wake up). So I went to bed considerably before they did, and I felt a lot better on Sunday. Somehow (even at home) I just don't get enough sleep. This weekend underscored how important that is.

My youngest daughter (15) had that "I'm bored and you are making me miserable" look on her face the whole time. She said almost nothing, wouldn't make any decisions (and we asked her so she would feel more included). When we landed in our home state, though, she started talking and talked the whole hour on the way home from the airport. Teens are strange!!!

Tired, but happy.
