Hi everyone..I just found this site today,and hope that I may share some of my strengths,encouragement and even weaknesses with my battle of Depression/panic disorder...Looks like a really good site that offers much hope to us all...God Bless & good luck

Welcome, and I'm glad you're here. Unfortunately, you've joined during a very tumultous time here on the board, and the upset was caused by someone with your same name. So please don't be discouraged or offended if you're not greeted immediately with open arms. It has absolutely nothing to do with you. The people here are wonderful, open, caring, and accepting. But they're a little gun-shy when it comes to new posters, and I'm afraid your name will make it doubly hard.
Please continue to hang out here and post. You are absolutely welcome and I look forward to getting to know you. If anyone's a little reticent, they'll come around soon, because this really is an amazing group of people.

Welcome! I think Hannah posted it -- it *has* been a bit *strained* here on these boards, lately, but there are so many good, supportive, nice, knowledgeable people here, too.
I guess it's like real life. :-)

Hi everyone..My name is Kristen Lechner.I take it that there has been some problems in here in the past with someone else by the name of Kristen..Explains why I had to choose the name Kristen_03, My name was already taken...Anyways I just turned 40 last week.Im a stay at home mom and have 4 boys and 2 girls..ages 5 thru 22..I have have been battling depression/panic disorder for the past 15 yrs.Have been on several different meds during this period.I was placed on zoloft about 10 yrs ago.Is stopped the panic attack and helped a good bit with the depression.One of the SE trade offs,is that all my sexual desires took a long road trip which has really put a strain on my marriage.I have reading up on Lexapro and am considering asking my Dr to try me on it..Am really nervous about giving up my Zoloft safety net..Does anyone have any suggestions or comments about the Lexapro? Thanks for any feedback you can offer :)

<<Hi, I don't know anything about Lexapro...but just wanted to tell you that this type of question might get redirected to Psychobabble, a board specifically for medication questions. Side effects are a huge concern to many, so you have people here who will definitely sympathize with you.Many people take a combination of meds to help them with their side effects. So perhaps it's possible for you to cut back on Zoloft a bit without giving it up, and adding an AD that's *activating.* I dunno. Post this on the psychobabble board and I'm sure you'll get lots of feedback from people with much more experience with these drugs than I have....

I can't speak to the Lexapro, but Wellbutrin typically doesn't have sexual side effects. I love Wellbutrin! Sadly, my pdoc put me on Paxil along with the Wellbutrin, so I'm in the same boat you are.
Aside from Wellbutrin, if you stay with the Zoloft (which has unacceptable sexual side effects for me) ginko biloba has been shown to often be quite effective in combating those SEs. I've always been a skeptic about "herbals" but the ginko has made a true believer out of me! The dosage for this remedy is 240 mg/day. If you're lucky, you'll be able to find 120 mg pills and only take them twice a day. Otherwise, you're looking at handfulls of pills. But WELL worth it, in my experience. It didn't fix everything for me completely, but at least now I enjoy sex again.
10 years is a heckava long time to live with SEs like that! ;)

Hi Kristen, I just found this site too and I am very happy about it. I am so glad that I will have people to talk to. I am 20yrs.old and just was diagnosed with depression/social anxiety and I am terrified. I was given zoloft and it has'nt really taken effect yet so I'm afraid and excited about what it will do to me. No one I have talked to so far has really been able to answer that question for me or even give me an idea. So thanks for listening and I would be glad to do the same for you or anyone else. I have depression and social anxiety too. I've been on Zoloft, and as I recall, it worked pretty well, but I couldn't live with the sexual side effects. Wellbutrin was my savior for a long time, but now I'm also taking Paxil. The Paxil works well for the social anxiety (which I never even realized I had), but it's pretty bad for sexual side effects too. Sigh. Do I want to feel happy, or do I want good sex? I hate having to choose between the two!
Don't mean to bring you down. I've actually learned to deal with it pretty well. (God bless ginko biloba!)
I'm glad you're here! I love the Clan of the Cave Bear series, which I'm sure you're familiar with! Ayla is a beautiful name.

Thanks for the warm welcome.I have a 21 yr old daughter who is a yr older than you and she also is on Zoloft,It really works well for her.I have been on it myself for about 10 yrs and has worked well for me with the exception of sexual side effects.Im considering trying something new.Try not to be afraid.It never did anything to me or my daughter..Everyone responds differently,Just made us feel more like ourselves and made it much easier to get out of bed everyday and join in on life.Try to do something to keep yourself busy while you are waiting for a response from the zoloft,that may help with the anxiousness..Keep me posted on how your doing...Take care & God Bless..:) Kristen :)

<<I don't know anything personally about Zoloft. There are many people here with experience with that, and the Psycho-Babble board is all about meds and their side effects, etc. So I'm sure you can find some good info. there.General advice:
Meds seem to affect everyone differently. You know your body/mind the best and don't be afraid to ask for changes in dosage/drugs if you feel you need them. And read read read about the drugs all you can. So many docs just prescribe them thinking they are a cure-all, and they aren't always. Paxil was horrible for me. Wellbutrin so far has been really good. But it took a year of Paxil before I figured out it was the drug itself that was bugging me.
