I am god....

Posted by slinky on June 20, 2003, at 7:56:12

...well, to this here big beetle I've imprisoned..
I've put it in a glass jar on my desk.
It struggles to climb the sides, falls and lands on it's back..but it continues to wave it's little legs to go and attempt to climb again.
I watch and I can give it freedom.
It often tires, maybe cursing in a beetle~way in the bubble unaware .
I can't watch it no more..we've a lot in common .
Out it goes!

I've often wondered just what tiny level of cognition insects operate under. They're so simple that it's hard to imagine them as anything more than tiny robots, responding blindly to stimuli based on a finite series of rules. Your beetle's constant attempts and failures to climb glass illustrates this.
Still, I always practice catch and release with the ones I come across.

..Little robots, I automatically see a charactor although it's just a bug on instinct..maybe because I still retain a child's perception of things.
A wasp flew into my apartment I yelled 'get out or else' ..it flew out.
I find since efexor I'm more gentle--I apologize to a bug if I squish it when it's annoying me--maybe I'm a latent buddhist :-)

slinkydinks, I like your little habit of spelling Effexor with one "f". It reminds me that my efexor is also spelled efexor on the packet because it's imported from Italy. Is all the efexor in the UK imported from Italy? Or will I find out, one day (perhaps a beetle will tell me), that you live in the same town as me, or even see the same pdoc?

That would be awesome, mysterious and very buddhist indeed.

I've always apologised to bugs, even though I avoid squashing them. What my One-f wonderdrug does for me is make me feel more assertive, so that I actually apologise less to humans who bug me, on occasions where they don't deserve a sorry. I'm starting to feel more like biting back when squashed. I'm not the woolly-brained sheepish Bedlington I once was! Raaaaaar!

Kalyb xx
