bad dream

Posted by Tabitha on April 16, 2003, at 21:22:05

I'm home from work sick. I think I'm having emotional regression. Slept all day, had a bad dream, I was in some town that was half my town and half my hometown, it was dark and grainy. I was in line for a movie, the title wasn't up but I decided to go anyway.. I got to the window and they had just sold the last ticket.. he offered to punch my discount card anyway but I couldn't find it. I kept seeing people who almost looked like someone I know but they weren't. I didn't want to go home but was afraid to go into anyplace else alone. I twisted my ankle on the walk back to my car. There was a big maple tree. I woke up and felt terrible longing, lonely and homesick. Now I just feel like a big whiny baby.

Isn't it odd that bad dreams can leave us feeling so unsettled? I'm glad that my meds usually leave me dreamless.

Tomorrow is another day though. I hope you had sweet dreams tonight.

Ok Tabitha, here's the lowdown*:

A dream about going to the movies is a warning not to be taken in by appearances.
Ankles: Broken ankles indicate success after a struggle (ooo I bet you'll like that one. Ok, so yours wasn't technically broken, but...we'll say it was...it's YOUR dream damnit!)
A tree is a good omen but since you didn't really do anything to it, we can't elaborate. For eg., if you'd chopped one down it would signify that your problems were of your own making. Healthy trees and plants are good luck. I imagine a big hearty maple tree would have to indicate strength or something, right?

All in all it was obviously a stress dream and was probably because you were getting sick. but looking at it this way makes you feel better right?

Isn't odd that we often have those dreams that take place in half one place, half another? I wonder if that's an indication of split personality...I kid. I wonder if the homesick and hometown references were just yearnings to be taken care of. That's how I always see them anyway.

I love this stuff. I have a book on it. clearly. I love astrology too but I'm not a new age freakazoid. it's just fun.
What your sign baby?

Very interesting, Madame Sees-a-lot. I'm Aries.

I always find really mundane literal interpretations of my dreams. This one.. about just missing the ticket to the unknown movie.. I thought was anxiety about missed opportunity, letting something slip away. Either my job or the guy I met recently.. both of which I'm on the verge of dropping.

The tree, I like the good luck idea. I was just admiring how beautiful it was, thinking I should have planted more trees like it (although maples don't thrive here) to shade my house. A full grown tree is a beautiful thing. It was the only pleasant piece of the whole dream, even though it was under the grainy greenish light too.

Don't you just hate those kind of dreams? I used to have a lot of dreams that involved places and/or people that were half familiar.

Could it be because we are consciously perceiving these things in a distorted way, or maybe our subconscious mind is afraid that these people/places have changed - or maybe they really have changed? Or maybe WE have changed and they don't quite fit any more?
