Tips on staying awake?

Posted by Dinah on March 27, 2003, at 8:35:36

Ever since my emotional upset, I've been intensely groggy. I can barely stay awake short periods of time. And I really can't afford that right now. I'm going to work at the office today and see if that helps. But there are things that need to be finished here, and I really need to shake this.

I've been drinking nothing but caffienated drinks. No help. My one experience with No-Doz or something like it was an extremely negative one, involving nausea and..., well you don't want to know.

Any other suggestions?

Hi Dinah..
Well there's not a lot of caffeine in say instant coffee or fizzy drinks.
What I do that helps somewhat is have espressos--usually 6-8 a day...and big dose Vitamin C..and water.
You probably tried this + everyone is different.
I'm struggling to keep awake also zzzzzzzz

If you think that's yuck I also eat raw garlic as an instant energizer--helps with fatigue.

you right now, but I find that some exersize useually stimulates me. Re: the coffee, like Dr, E said drink a lot of water with it as it is a dieretic. Also, have you ever tried "power naps"? You lay down as if to sleep, but set your alam clock for about an hour longer then you think it will take you to fall asleep and that usually rejuvinates you pretty well.

good lock.

whey I get that exhausted I usually just take a sick day and sleep and sleep and sleep. fixes me right up! but.. I guess that's not what you're wanting. try wiggling your toes, they say that's energizing. I do it when fighting up from sedated sleep hangover can't get out of bed feeling.

Oddly, going to the office, with all its attendant anxiety and stress, seemed to lift the fog enough that I didn't have to fight sleep. I probably wasn't at my most efficient, but I got a decent day's work done.

Unfortunately, most of what I need to do is on my home computer, so I either need to transfer some things to the office or else figure out how to bring a sufficient level of stress and anxiety home. :) At least until I'm feeling better. And how long can that be? My moods change with the wind.

I'm sorry. :-(

Rebounder / mini trampoline really does help with the sleepiness feeling-like-you're-swimming-through-mud feeling. But make sure you just bounce, not jump, if you're that tired so you don't lose your balance.

PS You read my reply about your therapist, I hope . . . I didn't want you to think I was being critical of either of you, as that certainly was not my intent. Just being my sometimes overly enthusiastic self.

Hmmmm. My son would love one of those too. Just have to figure out where to put one.

I did read your post, and I didn't feel that you were critical of either of us.

Believe it or not ( :-O ), I'm just having a hard time answering posts right now. I'm not sure I'm getting the meaning of the posts I read, and I can't think of much to say. Sticky goo has covered my brain.

My therapist says I'm avoiding something. Could be. Could also be the phases of the moon, or just the roll of the seasons.

I'm going to try adding risperdal today. I take it as needed, and I haven't taken it for this reason yet, but it seems to make me very mildly hypomanic. I can't afford to sleep all day right now. If that doesn't work, I don't know what to do.... I just can't lose my job.
