Seeking a lawyer in Capital District of New York

Posted by Magpie on February 28, 2003, at 3:22:14

Hi, my name is Maggie. A brief intro, I have been suffering bouts of
depression since I was in my teens (I am now 37.) I had returned to work
this past December following an extended leave that was lengthened against
my will by my employer. Then on Monday Feb. 10th, ridiculous false
accusations were leveled against me and I was again forced out on leave. I
have decided not to return to that employer because the harassment and now
this latest incident just causes me to slide back down into the hole and it
is not doing my health any good. However, I do want to fight back against
these accusations with the help of a lawyer, at the least clear my name, and
try to recover damages if possible. Is anyone here in or near the Capital
Region of NY and can you recommend a good lawyer who is familiar with Civil
Service Labor and Disability Law? So far I've only been referred to the
Albany Bar Association, so I have that and the Yellow Pages, but I would
much rather get a real referral from someone with experience. Thanks in
advance to anyone who can offer help, and thanks to all for reading this
from a sometime lurker. Best Wishes to all,

Maggie

Have you tried the local chapter of NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill)or DRADA (Depression and Related Affective Disorders Association)? They might have some names.

Thanks for replying Noa. Yes, I emailed NAMI about a week ago, still no reply. I have to follow up with them ASAP, probably Monday. I hadn't heard of DRADA so I will look into that as well. Thanks so much, I appreciate it,

Magpie

There are other organizations for depresion, too, if you don't have Drada nearby. That is the only one that came to mind, but I know there are others.

Thanks again Noa. I have contacted several organizations, but those were mostly generally concerned with the disabled and not specifically with the depressed. To tell the truth, I don't thinks there's all that much in this area, from prior searches of support. But I will give it a try. The organizations I HAVE contacted, one gave me some advice on the phone, but other than that just referred me to the Albany bar, as have the other organizations. That just seems like a shot in the dark to me. There is a service associated with the Albany Law School which got back to me at an inopportune time and I had to postpone speaking with them-perhaps tomorrow I can contact them again and get somewhere with them? Thanks again,

Magpie
