Anybody ever worked for one of these characters?

Posted by wharfrat on December 18, 2002, at 14:40:07

The Great State of Texas is suffering from a terrible flu epidemic as I type. Schools closing etc. etc. I have dodged the bullet in the past 3 weeks with my wife and both kids having it. Here I am as healthy as can be and my boss comes in hackin' and coughin' and taking on about how sick he is. How he was up all night kneeling before the porcelin god and so on. This place would certainly not close down if Einstein and his germs would just stay home until at least the contagious part of this flu were over. We have'nt gone out of business while he's been deer hunting this year (at least 10 days gone in the past month). Why do people do this? I've heard him bad mouth people before when they were home sick about how "they just can't take it". Interestingly enough, most of the workers around here don't get sick until he comes in sick. So if he gives this sh*t to me, I'll be taking off the rest of the year because "I just can't take it".
Has anybody ever worked for an inconsiderate ass like this before?
Happy Holidays,

Wharf

At my daughter's preschool, parents send their children to school hacking and dripping and blowing, and it's okay, just as long as they don't have a fever! I suppose I could understand it if some of these women had jobs to go to and needed to live their kids in school, but half of these moms don't work and just don't want to sacrifice their own few hours of solitude.

I take my daughter back home when there's a snotty kid at school.

But in answer to your question, yes. I've worked with these kinds of people all my life. They show up for work long enough to make everyone else sick.

When I get sick, I spend two days in bed until it's mostly gone. I don't socialize, don't go out, don't exert myself. I just wait it out. I wish others would do the same. If they did, we wouldn't have half the illnesses we have.

Here's a little tip about colds that maybe you already know: the rhinovirus enters through your nose or eye (if you sip from a cold sufferer's glass--or kiss him--you could be relatively safe). And you spread colds through your nose or mouth. So if someone sneezes into his hand and shakes yours, and you take that hand and touch your eye or nose later, it's pretty likely you'll get a cold.

Avoid shaking anyone's hand during cold and flu season! And don't share their telephone!

beardy (who hates colds and has one on January 1st and November 1st this year, and that's IT!)

Yes, I know, thank you. Parents don't "live" their children at school, and I "had" a cold on January 1st of this year. (And don't use his or her telephone, rather than "their" telephone.)

Good thing I'm anal again. I was starting to worry.

P.S. And wash your hands well and often (or really good and frequently)!

I was just too polite to point them out to you (& fearful my posts would get the full frontal assault!). But I can top you with not having colds. I haven't had one in over 10 years. But I did get pneumonia from stress when my marriage broke up 6 years ago.

Yeah? Ten years? Excellent! What's your secret? And would NOT having a child in preschool or elementary school have anything to do with it? Because I can tell you most of my colds come from my daughter.

I ate yogurt every day for a year while I smoked, and I didn't get a cold all year. I'm thinking yogurt is probably a good thing. But really, what's your secret?

I'm not really sure. I've been around a lot of sick people both at college & work but still didn't get sick. And 10 years ago my youngest was 10 & my oldest just finished school. Even before that, any cold was very mild & brief. No flu since 1974.

A number of things I take or eat are supposed to be beneficial for the immune system (vitamin D, about 2000 IU, & soy), but I'm not sure. I told others I'm too stubborn to get sick.

Beardy was being polite, unlike you - you're honest instead! *_^
See? That's the trouble with PB - not being able to go back edit a mistake you realised you made just after you clicked the confirm button.

I honestly loved being corrected & teased. For me, it means affection. I only tease those I care about. For those I don't particularily like, I shut my mouth. Otherwise, I'd be too caustic. You love me, don't you?

I didn't miss it; I simply put it in my p.s., instead of my headline, and did so quietly, without pointing fangers.
