Paranoia Sets In Big Time

Posted by NancyLee on May 18, 2002, at 6:39:32

I was reading the newspaper today online. I was reading about a murder of a teenage prostitute
when I had to close out the story because I was afraid by being online and connected to the story, I would be accused of the murder......Has anyone ever have thoughts like that?.......Peace.........Good Things For You

Not exactly like that, perhaps, but close enough. With me it would be more like the idea that by reading the story the killer would be angry and come and kill my family. It doesn't happen all that often, but often enough to frighten me.

My mental health providers say not to worry. It's just an extension of my OCD (which is of the responsibility OCD type), and that I should treat the thoughts like any other OCD thoughts. Which would mean challenging the thoughts and refusing to shut down the story. In reality I'd probably challenge the thoughts and shut down the story anyway. CBT has only been a qualified succes. :)

Do you by chance have OCD?
