Posted by Lou Pilder on May 10, 2002, at 11:33:16

Friends;
Tell which one of the dogs below does not belong in the list and why. Some one else will have to monitor this thread today for I may have to leave. Someone that knows a lot about dogs. Is there somneone out there that knows a lot about dogs? Then you should know which dog does not belong in the list.
A) Great Dane
B) Pit Bull
C) German Shepard
D) Cocker Spanial
E) Scotch Tarrier

Hmph!! I say the shepherd doesn't belong. Reasoning, it doesn't hunt. Now I can't remember what and if the Dane was a hunter?

On the other side, the spaniel may not belong, because it's not known for protective qualities, but any dog will become concerned should his meal ticket be threatened.

would know this.

The Great Dane actually originated in Germany.

I'll think about the others. I feel a little pressure because this should be very easy for me.

the american cocker is, of course, a off-shoot of the british cocker. they are considered separate breeds now.

here's something i didn't know about the british cocker:

" It is believed this breed was used to flush game for hawks. In the early 19th century the name Cocker was used to describe a dog that was used on woodstock. "

they're sweet dogs, but many have problems with blindness when they get older, and also tend to get Very cranky with age.

but as usual, i imagine these are breeding problems that can be fixed, and this does not always happen at all. i've known some really sweet older cockers.

the answer is F !!!!! The Oatmeal spoon........... (nm)

Kat,

My parents have a beuatiful British cocker! Do you have one, too? He's a wonderful dog, absolutely love him...

W.

ps: You're right, all cockers are from Spain, it's right there in the name... My guess is it's the Great Dane, because he runs races for a living, but I suppose I'm wrong...

Okay you gave me my laugh for the day. I think you are thinking of the greyhound. Here's a link to the great dane http://www.ualberta.ca/~dc8/dane.htm

The dog is from the mastiff group of dogs, which means that he's bigger than I. Not noted for speed but strength these guys.

Well, from a technical standpoint, if the names were all spelled correctly, I'd vote for pit bull. Pit bull isn't a breed as the others are. Most pit bulls are mixed breed dogs with a lot of Staffordshire Terrier in them. Of course, maybe the person asking the question really meant 'staffordshire terrier'.

oh boy, now i'm thinking maybe it's Great Dane, since its the only one that's a breed and spelled right. LOL.

Or the spaniel would be the only one that isn't a good watch dog.

or maybe not. Hah. Heck if I know.

Katekite,
Your absolutly right. I really meant Staffordshire Terrier insted of pit bull. How could I have made such an error??? But the question has many flaws in it. The idea is to make the choices so that there is one and only one correct answer. Perhaps you can devise one of your own and chair it this evening?

Dear WW,

Glad at least someone laughed! Oh, god, you're right! I was thinking of a greyhound... Too much wine last night? Too little human stimulation this afternoon? Too much talking to my invisible friends on the internet?? Ol' brain isn't working like it did before the neurontin. Hmmm... Maybe just getting old? At least I have a multitude of things I can blame it on, rather than admitting to plain stupidity. I am actually a dog-lover from way back...

love,
Wendy

You appear to know a lot about dogs. I devised this thresd, but it had many flaws, for there should be one and only one correct answer. Could you devise a thread that could stand the scrutiny of the dog -lovers here and chair it ?

Lou,

I appear to know NOTHING about dogs, if you take a look a this thread!

I was never much of a gameswoman, so I don't make up quizzes. Also: why do you keep asking people to make these things up and then "chair" them? Is there some ulterior motive? Dear Lou, you can be such an enigma at times!

Best wishes,
Wendy

Wendy,
I have been sent here, although I didn't want to go. You see, there is a way that leads to the escape from the darkness of slavery of the afflictions and suffereing that the posters have here. And I have been sent to tell you the way out of the darkness and into the light that will set the posters free here. That way is to know the truth, for the truth will set you free. Now the truth is right here. But you have to KNOW it. To KNOW it is to have it intimatly in your being and to be able to rightly divide the truth . The little exercise is a way that I have devised to help people rightly divide the truth.
There are people here that falsely portray me so that I will be an enigma. They attempt to brand me with defaming epithets. They say to others that the best way to handle what I am saying is to not click at all on my posts. There are those that want to comingle what I am saying with fables. They say that my speech should not be heard here. They attempt to make people believe that I want "special" rights, when all I am seeking is "equal" rights. I have been talking about freedom and victory and overcomming and equality. All of those things are intimatly involved in KNOWING the truth. And the truth will set you free. The way to freedom from your depression is to first forgive. Then the gates to life will open and you will find the truth that will set you free. After you forgive, all hate and desire for vengeance wil go away. You will be developing into a new creature, haveing a new spirit born into you. You will find love, peace and joy. And you will be able to rise up to any person in the world and not fear them And you will be able to sing "Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty ,I am free at last.

KK,
Thank you for identifying yourself as the dog expert. I thought it was Wendy. Perhaps your knowlege about dogs could take you to the park. And in the park you may meet a special person that also likes dogs. And then you and that special person could go and have some fish and chips and find a whole new road together. God works in mysterious ways.

Here I go consulting the trusty old good dictionary.

ENIGMA: -a person of puzzling or contradictory character OR -a saying, question, picture, etc., containing a hidden meaning; riddle
(Now I'm not sure if we can apply the later meaning to a person, but I would use it to describe someone, right or wrong.)

I like this word. For me Kazoo is an enigma and I don't mean it in a hurtful way, just that at times I don't understand him and at other times I do so clearly. And we all know how I like kazoos! Now I have questioned him about writing in riddles, but he claims to not like riddles. So does it all depend on the person reading, how they interpret?
