dont know what to do

Posted by scared on April 8, 2002, at 8:30:26

im running out of money and dont know what to do

i *could* move back in with my parents (could meaning that they would let me)
BUT
i just dont think i can
i couldnt handle my loss of privacy
i couldnt handle their fighting
i dont get along all that great with my dad
they would impose "rules" (im 31)

im really fat and depressed - ive been trying to get my disability forms filled out for months now - i wont get approved - even though i know i qualify, i have no documentation - i cant afford to get any help - im on no medication right now
ive been depressed for many years - treatment before never really worked - been untreated for over a year now
i cant really work, even if i wanted to - i weigh over 400 lbs and cant even sit or stand for very long
im so damn scared
i want to die, but it would really mess up my mom
i just dont see any options

has anyone else had to move back home with two parents?
they have a very small house - no one would have any room
i just really want to live alone

I dont live in the US so cant give you specific ideas, but isnt there some agency you can ask for expert advice about the benefits, other options for housing etc? Either some official part of social services or some voluntary organisation? Help me out here, US folk!?

Is there a friend you can stay with, or some really cheap housing or anything?

It does sound tough. I can only manage a few days with my parents, personally. If you do end up there, maybe have time on your own and out of the house as much as you can?

Thinking of you.

Surely you qualify for Medicaid? I was hospitalized for awhile (nice hospital) and met patients on the psychiatric ward whose medical treatment was completely paid for - therapy, drugs, everything - through Medicaid or some kind of social service, and whose living expenses were paid for through disability benefits.
If your parents would provide a supportive environment I would think you might be better off living with them, but it doesn't sound like they would do anything but depress you further. (No force on earth could make me move back in with my parents). Also you surely qualify for Section Eight housing, if all else fails. Since you have access to a computer and sound perfectly literate,
there is information at hand. My favorite website for looking up information is "Dogpile.com", much better than AOL search.
Good luck-
Gracie
