Frog Pills - Maybe should Be On PB :-)

Posted by IsoM on February 14, 2002, at 10:53:38

Checking out some of my favourite music - Celtic, & found these lyrics. Made me smile, maybe it'll do the same for others.

Dried Frog Pills
(tune: Leslie Fish, "Blue Bread Mold")
inspired by a running joke in Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels

Welcome to my pharmacy, we're opening today
Now I can't set a broken bone or drive the plague away
But sickness in the head is worse than fever and the chills,
So I recommend a daily dose of dried frog pills.

Chorus:
Sing,
Dried frog pills, the cure for all your ills,
Nothin' keeps you happy like the dried frog pills!

Now you, they say you're crazy, though you wouldn't hurt a fly
They take sharp things away from you, and never tell you why
If eating with a wooden spoon ain't your idea of thrills
Then at dinnertime just take a couple dried frog pills!

Chorus

Your boss he keeps you jumping and it's wearing out your nerves
And all your daily loyalty is more than he deserves
But quitting's not an option and you're not the type that kills
So take a heaping handful of the dried frog pills!

Chorus

Now you look fairly healthy, sir, but sorrowful and sad
Depression's never fun, but for a clown it's twice as bad
So if you're feeling mis'rable despite your jesting skills
Just grab a glass of water and some dried frog pills!

Chorus

Your town is going crazy, well it's crazy but it's true,
To stop yourself from going mad you're not sure what to do
So grab a jug of scumble, it's the best the town distills,
And it's great for washing down a bunch of dried frog pills!

Chorus

Well, thank you for your patronage, and have a pleasant day
But listen to my one advice before you go away
I'll offer you a discount on your next eleven bills
If you tell your friends about me and my dried frog pills!

Final Chorus:
Sing,
Dried frog pills, the cure for all your ills,
Nothin' keeps you happy like the dried frog pills!
Oh the dried frog pills, what a promise they fulfills...
They may sound a bit like Prozac but they're dried frog pills!

Please send me a video of you doing your Tai Chi-ish exercises while listening to this music, thanks.

What? And probably scar you forever with life-long nightmares???

I'm not the most graceful person & while, in my mind, I'm graceful & sway like a reed in the breeze, I probably look like a stumbling klutz! Thinking of taking some kung-fu classes a fellow coworker teaches. She told me that she's not the most graceful person either but the classes teach you better physical control. I can run over my own feet when shopping with my own grocery cart. Not too many like me, thank goodness.

Another friend took belly-dancing lessons. Now that really interests me!! Great exercise for hips & fits right in with CSA period.

IsoM,
I've always believed that you could get all the dried frog you needed by eating a balanced diet. However, to each his own. Just remember that US law is a little ambiguous on the legality of dried frog pills (DFP) so that while we may discuss the merits of DFP we probably shouldn't post any links to foreign sources or instructions for catching and dehydrating your own.

I have a CSA friend who occasionally hosts drum circles at her house complete with several belly-dancers. I went once. It was mind-altering. In a good way. :)

The belly-dancers looked like they were enjoying themselves too, even the new ones. Seems like a great idea to me.

Until I find classes closer to home, I'll continue to try to figure out how they can get their hips moving like that. I found some good belly-dancing sites & there's videos on it too. Think I'll check them out.

The drum circles sound fun - what's all involved? I'd kind of like to join CSA (got invited to) but it can be very time-consuming & expensive - all the costumes, the travelling to events & banquets. I hate committing myself to something I don't wish to do as intensely as they do.

I live in Canada so maybe the law differs on frogs here. I agree about the balanced diet. I mean frogs feel good on bugs alone, right? And even if I wanted to make my own at home, I just don't know whether to include frog eggs in the mixture or just straight frogs. No specifications on what species either. And if I dry the pills at too high a temperature, do they lost their potency? ;-)

At least, I know not to lick toads.

The drum circle was just a bunch of drummers sitting in a circle with hand percussion instruments (mostly djembes/dumbeks). My friend is an extremely talented percussionist and she led/provided the rhythms. She lent me a dumbek and I tried to keep up, but I kept getting distracted by the belly dancers. :)

Anyway, I think all it would take is a few people who have hand drums and a sense of rhythm. Having a talented person around is just icing on the cake.

These friends seem to be relatively casual members of CSA...they go to events about twice a year, hold occasional drum circles, sometimes attack the dummy in the back yard with a wooden sword (my friend's gf/wife/partner is a knight). I know there are lots of folks who get really really into it, but I think it's possible to participate at whatever level you want. They've also made some good friends through CSA.

This is starting to sound like a commercial. Note that I'm not a member myself and I don't sell silver jewelry or armor or medieval robes, so I'm not pushing membership. ;)

I kept trying & trying. I think I've got the belly/hips movement!! Hurray!

Now I'm trying to coordinate moving all parts in conjuction with one another. Kinda like learning to play the piano & get your left hand to do something - my right would stop moving.
