theory on mania

Posted by sar on October 19, 2001, at 11:35:57

i was flipping through Kay Redfield Jamison's An Unquiet Mind last night and came across mention of a theory that mania is an extreme form of depression.

what do you think of this?

when i was acting crazy and felt sick but good last year, i called it "nihilism." i felt so bad that only doing crazy things made me feel good, i was absolutely drawn to them and it repercussions didn't matter because i was going to die anyway.

anyone care to comment on the theory?

An extreme form of depression - interesting. Since we don't really know what depression is yet, it's hard to tell.

I do know that the stabilizer I take pulled me out of a depression, which it doesn't commonly do, and has helped curb the mania.

I think Bipolar Disorder and perhaps Depression are related to Epilepsy. Can't give ya one good reason why - it's just a feeling.

We haven't been introduced, seems my position is in jeapordy(hows my spelling today-crap) maybe we should work together.
I too think along same lines......the epilepsy thing- new meds used for rapido cyclers with no brakes, are epileptic drugz.

It's always been my theory that fluctuating mood states and seizures might be related as well. The similarity between temporal lobe epilepsy and psychiatric problems is interesting. Also, I had a dog once who had seizures and sometimes during my obsessive, ruminating loops, I am reminded of the look in her eyes. I feel trapped, know that something is wrong, but can't seem to do anything about it.

Dear Drs.

Major med advice, pdoc, says he is convinced my illness is seizure related...lupus keeps coming up...so, I am asking every doctor I see, do I have lupus...any sign of an auto immune disorder...I think I will put MS on the list too. One doc said, oh, lupus is EASY to diagnois it is only a simple blood test...wrong...1 to 3 percent dont show up as positive ANA antigen...

Mouse digging in lab tests...

and this guy was rite about some other things...I say 'would you have anything to do with caring for me if I had lupus' 'oh no,' he says, 'I would refer management to the primary physican' oh the lines doctors draw, the lines attorneys draw, the lines insurance draw...

I am also under the couch, how did I hit the anti addiction button? I am just trying to keep up with my buddies...and all of a sudden, my computer is diagnosing me...

It is two hours before bedtime, and I thought I could check, and discovered the anti addiction button was clicked...I thought I had selected music....

Because of this, I have on my new 'todo' list 'learn how to set up stuff on the computer' ...I was ready to write "learn everything about the computer"

Heh! Its ALL OR NONE with me B-A-Y bee

hard to think.

going down on the Keppra department store elevator is worse than going UP.

My dearest mouse:

Does sound like elevator is going up. But Keppra was not good, was it? I can't recall - have you tried Topamax + Depakote? I don't know, as you may have read going down on Topamax sent me UP, UP, UP. So I'm back on a small dose and it's helping for now.

Which floor tonight? I would like to be let off at evening wear, and be able to choose any gown. The occasion can come later...

> I, too, had a dog who had seizures and had not thought about that. I used to hold the little guy down until his "episode" was over. It was so good for me because I was a pre-teen at the time and it taught me how to be alert to others' needs and how to handle the "emergency" and how to be compassionate. I credit Skipper for a lot. :)

I don't know - it just makes sense to me. Especially the way my brain "responds" to the dose changes in these stabilizers - like it's literally expanding.

Thanks for your reponse.

Please forgive me for intruding on your territory. Your reputation precedes you. ;)

I am honored that you agree with my theory and would love to collaborate further.

I have heard from very Inside Folks that the Vagus Stimulator is none other than a vaginal stimulator turned up a notch. Amazing!

Dearest Dr. KK,

I am doing a bit of research . I'm next in line for the Grand Rounds .I will be performing a self xamination of my cerebal cortex and beyond by probing areas with a powerful stimulator -my invention, the nano probe injectile.
If by a cruel fate I end up cabbaged , I suggest you take over my research and freeze my head for future reference.

Dr.Eamer......Radical Researcher.

My collegues and are are going to be picketing with placards in our cages from 00:00:00 to 01:01:99 on 01-01-02.

We have notified all national and international news media. BTW all artifical sweetener has been removed from the lab.

Oh, but it was such a contribution, Dr.! So it is. I must admit I am ready right now for a deep massage and gentle probing of the brain, but only for personal use.

I have more theories which I will work on in the meantime.
