They needed a poll to tell them that? They could have just given all that money to us and we would have told them!!!

Perhaps if everyone was not glued to CNN and MSNBC
they would not be as depressed and sleepless.

Information overload, too much information.

Thanks for sharing the poll, kazoo. I am not glued to the television and my depression immediately skyrocketed. In fact I was too upset to watch TV at all for the first few days. Because I was depressed before the event, it *has been* really helpful to hear from others on the board and friends and clients how deeply depressed or anxious they have become since the attack. I would have just thought my depression was getting worse on it's own, not necessarily related to what happened, since I did not personally lose any friends or family members.

I'm getting a different perspective from our news up here in Canada, and of course it didn't affect our feeling of safety as adversely as the Americans. I am glad to see that attention is being paid to people's mental health.

Perhaps the American government should weigh the affects of "their" war on people's sense of well-being. I'm not against going after the terrosists, by all means; however, I have my doubts about the benefits of retalitating the way your goverment has proposed. Just some of my thoughts.

Hey,

I've decided to limit myself to 20 minutes of this news per day. That's all I need.

I missed the prez's speech last night. I was busy watching "Farscape" on the Sci-Fi Channel. It was much more entertaining I'm sure.

I felt over-load the first day this went down. As a mentally-ill American I need to protect my mental health in order to be of use to anyone now. All I can do for my country is stay well and continue to contribute to the economy.

I realize that all of these events are beyond my control and that when it's my time to go there will be nothing I can do about it. Somehow I think I'm quite safe in Iowa.... ;-)

Our war? Is any war exclusive to anyone other than those wimps declaring a pablum neutrality?
Toronto sure has a swell looking tower, eh?
You shall be spanked by 260 million Americans, me first.

Im a US citizen living in Toronto with my Canadian husband and American daughter and dual-citizen son. I take effexor in small doses. I have a long history of managable mental illness.

I consider myself a fairly healthy person, mentally, but I have lupus, some deteriorating condition in my uterus (biopsy in a week), and migraines.

I was a Marine wife and previously worked for a military aid agency.

Im not allowed to donate blood.

Im 500+ miles from my family.

I live in a building full of Muslims who are being persecuted.

I watched in horror as my president never even mentioned Canada's unequalled role in the days immediately after the attack. The thousands of people we housed and fed when they shut the skies down. The public mourning. The Canadian citizens singing the US national anthem.

I wept at the Consulate when I read:

"...land of the free and home of the brave...
...we stand on guard for thee..."

I held my son in my arms and watched with pride when my daughter tried to explain to her friends what it meant to be an American and how she felt.

I am sleepless because I live in an apartment building and can see the airplane lights every night.

My husband is sleepless because he is worried about me.

I dont think its a mental illness to react to shocking and distressing events with shock and distress.

I also think whoever thought up that pole was an idiot.

> Our war?

Well yes it is your government's war. I don't hear of them consulting with other nations, more so telling how it will be.

*Is any war exclusive to anyone other than those wimps declaring a pablum neutrality?

Your country was very neutral during WWII. And yes it was a Canadian doctor that invented pablum. Though I don't think this is a good time to start finger pointing.

> Toronto sure has a swell looking tower, eh?

Yes we have much pride in that tower. If I could have chosen it or the WTC with all those people, or even just one plane with innocent victims, I would press the buttons to bring it down.

> You shall be spanked by 260 million Americans, me first.

I think you may be wrong. The ones on those planes which were welcomed without question during those trying hours were welcomed into our homes. To know us is to love us! Can you say the same for your fellow Americans?
