U.S. Election

Flip a coin already, geez.

It's like they've gone up to the booth and we're waiting word on the outcome of a video replay.

Cam, I am glad they are taking their time, becuase there are some serious ballot problems. Apparently 19000 votes were thrown out becasue the ballots were confusing and led to people punching two names rather than one. OF course, it is in a district that is heavily democrat, which could mean that Gore would have won by many many more votes than are now separating him and Bush. So, there is no way I am going to stand by and accept Bush as president if the problematic ballots are not addressed.

Noa - I'm sorry, I don't mean to make light of the election or make it sound unimportant, but it gives me an edge-of-the-seat feeling that one experiences when watching a Fox special.

Perhaps the 2 parties could call a "do over" or a "Mulligan" or this could make the O.J. fiasco seem like a Sunday drive on the freeway. The legal stuff could go on for years.

We are having our own election up here, and believe me, I find ours harder to take serious than yours.

Hope you take this in the silly vein in which it was intended. - Cam

Don't worry, Cam, I knew you were kidding around, but I thought I'd "educate" you about why it does matter.

This election is dead serious, even without these ballot problems. If we have 4 years of Bush, it isn't just a matter of 4 years. We have several older Supreme Court Justices who are likely to retire soon, and Bush will appoint new justices. This could profoundly affect our country for a very long time. His position suggests that he would appoint constitutional literalists whose decisions could set civil rights (minorities, women, the disabled) back tremendously.

But the balloting problems are a non-partisan problem, IMHO. We cannot allow 19, 000+ people to be left out due to poorly designed ballots. And, I cannot accept a president elected on the basis of this disenfranchisement.
