Scheduled chats?

Posted by Dinah on November 7, 2009, at 11:24:13

Room 2 is generally used for social purposes, because all posters blocked or not can use it.

But maybe we could schedule topic specific chats in Room 1? DBT, or therapy, or whatever else people might think of?

Chat isn't archived, googleable, tweetable, or linked to facebook.

Not marketing, don't care since I don't much use chat features anywhere..... But for those who want scheduled chats now, here is the link to PsychCentral's chats. I've been to a few and met some nice peeps.

Your mileage may vary.

I like this idea. Will we be able to come up with a time to include people on both coasts?

Good idea.

My best times are btwn 8-9 pacific coast time(daylight savings).
I don't really understand times too good.
Here is a calculator.

You just type in the province/state and it'll tell you the current time.

I think the idea might be that some people would like a way to chat with the people they know from this site - not with strangers.

And of course some of us may feel that PC is not interchangeable with Babble, that it has a very different feel, and different poster attitudes than this site does.

I don't think it's a coincidence that you can "market" other sites here but not vice versa.

Does anyone have any?

Here's one of mine. Less than once a week therapy and how to make it work.

But I think it might be better to start with topics of more general interest. DBT? I can't contribute much to that one I'm afraid but I know that many other people here could.

Other topics?

Nice site muffled. I like their meeting planner although it's biased towards the work day not evening chats.

Your 8-9PM is 11-12 eastern time or 10-11 pm central time if you prefer to use the time at the bottom of Babble. Too late for some easterners but others are still going strong.

It's probably impossible to find one time that works for everyone but there's no rule that says there has to be only one chat on a subject. Why not try different times and see what happens?

I suppose that's the joy of asynchronous communication.

It really bugs me that Dr. Bob has been able to mess this up. We care about each other, we support each other, and he shouldn't be able to change that.

Well, I stay up late, so for me, I could go in either direction. I suppose finding a day of the week might be a problem? If we do it late, my time, any day is ok with me, with individual exceptions of course.

am I missing something?

Hey all. Am I missing something here? I disabled the buttons and my understanding is that when you see my posts they aren't tweetable. Is that right? I'm guessing this based on the fact that I still see them for some people, but I don't see them for others. Meaning disabling the buttons does it for your posts, not just for what you see.

Anyway, for me, this feels back to normal. I suppose someone could include my post in their response and then tweet that...

I don't disagree with the sentiment that people shared about disliking the new change. But, it did feel fixed to me when I turned it off. Can someone share why it doesn't feel fixed to them... I don't want to have a false sense of security.

Thanks
WIP

Hi, I dunno if you know me, but been here awhile, but left due to administrator of this site.
The whole 'button' fiasco was just one of many problems we had with Bob.
I and others tried very very hard to work with him, and to help him make this site be the best it could be, but he just doesn't seem to understand people too well, and we can't seem to teach him. And beleive me , many tried very hard.
So its not he 'buttons' per se. Its the fact that *yet again*, Bob has just trampled over us w/o seemingly a care.
Being that he is the owner and administrator of this site, he then has FULL control. After witnessing repeatedly times where he hurt people here, but was unable to change, I decided I could not stay here. It was very hard to leave, and as you can see, I still read and pop in from time to time. But I cannot really be here, its not safe.
So no, its not the buttons, its how the site has historically been run, and that how it is run does not change, THAT is why I am not here.
I do not hate Bob, I just think he has issues that make him unable to understand, and this makes him hurtful. Over and over.
Please be safe,
Muffled

and it's not the buttons either. Everyone will tell you it is, but I have to respectfully disagree.

It's a very unfortunate combination of forces, perhaps somewhat inexplicable, and complex-- and certainly not simple or clear.

And remember muffled, as you yourself say, you left this site a long time ago.

Keep telling us what it is, k? Cuz I love that. I think Muffled sums it up nicely, "So its not his 'buttons' per se. Its the fact that *yet again*, Bob has just trampled over us w/o seemingly a care."

It's not the buttons, but it is Bob, because he did the blocks which led to no people which lead to the buttons which apparently led to the outrage.

On the other hand if everyone had been civil there would have been no blocks. But it wouldn't have been any fun either.

It wouldn't have worked anyway, not for ever, not for long, but it WAS working once, a few years ago now.

Well, you take things for granted when they are there and miss them once they are gone.

And I can respectfully disagree right back at you. I understand your point of view and that is fine, but I would respectfully ask that someone please be respectful of my opinion too. It is Bob, it is the buttons, it is the blocks, it is I feel the lack of respect to how I feel as a poster and person. I try to respect everyone and I expect now to be respected back.

Thank you and peace to all but I think Muffled is right, bayleaf is right, and Sig is right. We all have the right to how we feel no matter what that feeling is.

Peace to all

We all get to choose what we will do.
I just really wanted to make it clear what my(and many others) experience has been here at babble, so that people may make informed choices, thats all.
I do not mean to Bob bash, I am just stating facts.
And the facts are what I stated.
Others don't want to say too much, and thats good. People should only do that which they are comfortable with.
So the reson I HAVE been posting lately, is cuz its making me nuts to see the same thing that happened and hurt me, hurt others.
I just wish what(IMHo), is the truth, to be out there. So that people can make informed descions.
I understand this is hard for many, and many will not understand cuz either they have not been here as long and seen the cycles I have, or maybe they were not as intensely and deeply involved in the efforts to make change here, or maybe they have better control than I and have never been blocked....I dunno.
But I made a fair study of babble and Bob for awhile in an attempt to try and make things better.
I was not the only one.
Others went a step further and stood up to be deputies (thank you guys!!!) in order to help the site.
Alot of people put alot of effort into this place....all for naught.
So ya, I feel burned on my own behalf, and I feel really angry on the behalf of others who particicpated here in good faith and yet whose feelings were seemingly ignored.
Alot of truly valuable people who shared special things together.
Trampled. Dumped into the street.
Thats just how I feel.
My friends, who hung on, who struggled to stay(just like me) are yet again trampled.
Its HARD to leave ATM, especially when those you care about seem to be losing their home.
So where will I come to find them if they don't post here?
Its just so sad.
Nadeza, I bear you no ill will, and I am sorry if this is hard for you. Its hard for everybody. Proly Bob too.
I don't want us to fight each other.
I just want everybody to be OK. Thats all.To be safe.
Peace to you Nadeza. Maybe we will meet up somewhere else some time when things are smoother :-)

Yeah, therapy in general is a good topic.

I have a firend who is looking at taking an SRT training(self regulation therapy)-has anyone done that?

I am fairly learned on dissociation.

PETS!!!!

Concerns about children(for those who have them)

Talk about school(for those in school)

htose are some ideas....
