short video - understanding borderline (triggers)

Posted by Garnet71 on August 14, 2009, at 14:50:54

I came across this today, and thought I'd share it here. It's very sad, but encouraging at the end. It may be very triggering for some.

Maybe it will help with understanding for those of us who have someone in our life with BPD, children who have grown up with BPD parents, or anyone here who may be suffering. It is provocative.

I've seen that before, and yes, it is very provocative and intense. You can read everything that is written about BPD, but words cannot truly capture the experience as well as moving imagery can. This is probably the closest someone can get to understanding BPD without actually experiencing it themselves. I think the way the video explains "emotional pain" is particularly accurate. You know how you're asked to rate [physical] pain on a scale of 1 to 10? I always have a difficult time doing whenever I've had to do that (which, luckily, is not very often at all), because I always think "Well, when I was [blank]," or "when [blank] happened, the psychic pain was so intense that I thought it would kill me, and sometimes I even hoped it would, but this isn't anywhere near that bad," or even, "I have some degree of emotional pain every freaking day, so this is nothing," etc. The only good thing about that is I think it has given me a very high tolerance for [physical] pain.

The message at the end is very encouraging, but, naturally, it's impossible to accept it as truth.
